Offensive.

It is a very rare thing for me to feel the need to call someone out on issues of political correctness, but this book made me feel so uncomfortable in so many ways that I only made it half way through before calling it quits.
Between the narrator’s puffed up melodramatic delivery (most notably his ridiculous breathy female voices), to excessive amounts of unnecessary detailed descriptions of female character’s bodies and how the protagonist self indulgently judges them as hideous, OR if pleased by them, proceeds to objectify them in his tiny pathetic narcissistic mind.
This is just really sad, I cannot believe how lazy this author has become, the story is slow and sloppy and it’s only purpose appears to be for the author to express his personal displeasure with the political correctness expected in today’s society through his horrible male characters.
Perhaps Mr. Coben has now become famous and wealthy enough to show us all what kind of person he really is. I will never read another of his books and if you are female, or care at all about females in general… Then I strongly suggest you skip this one, even while it is in audible’s free section.

Just no

I’m not usually a non-finisher, but I’m not committing another 3.5 hours of my life to this. Unlike some of the other reviewers who didn’t enjoy this audio book, I didn’t mind the narrator’s performance of the cynical, world-weary masculine Prosecutor.
But there are a lot of fictional male detectives on Audible who don’t need to win our respect by boasting of sexual conquest (with more than one reference to ‘cherry’ …) Or intelligent/professional female characters with the (almost sole) purpose of telling us how memorable that was.
And don’t start me on the ethnic tropes.
Sorry, just no.

Not impressed

Please let the listener know that this book is about gay men - this is not a subject that interests me.

The Misogyny was too much

Very unlikable and superficial protagonist. There is nothing healthy to balance it off. The female performances are all breathy. I’ve read a lot of Corban’s work and this doesn’t seem like the same author. Will be weary of future purchases. Weird.

Not his best work.

The audio is pretty bad quality. The story lacks any real oomph.. I love Harlen Coben, and if you do too, I'd suggest giving it a miss

story is ok but protagonist is really unlikeable

I enjoyed the story but the main character was a self righteous, whingy, whiney, narcissistic PITA. I found myself thinking he would be guilty because of his narcisism and that it may have been part of a complex psychopathology. However, it turns out he was just unlikeable.

Also, the dialogue was corny and cheesy and was too much to bear at times. I gave it 3 stars but this may have been a bit generous.

Harlan Coben doesn’t disappoint

A great crime story with all the twists and turns. Well told and performed by the Scott Brick. I enjoyed this book and couldn’t put it down once I started listening to it. I can’t get enough of the Harlan Coben books and TV shows.

The woods

Really enjoyed this story in the way that it took me in on the journey of horror, suspense and meaningful connections to characters.
