Publisher's Summary

Contains the complete Wolf of the North trilogy.

Wolf of the North, book 1

It has been generations since the Northlands have seen a hero worthy of the title. Many have made the claim, but few have lived to defend it. Timid, weak, and bullied, Wulfric is as unlikely a candidate as there could be.

A chance encounter with an ancient and mysterious object awakens a latent gift, and Wulfric's life changes course. Against a backdrop of war, tragedy, and an enemy whose hatred for him knows no bounds, Wulfric will be forged from a young boy into the Wolf of the North. This is his tale.

Jorundyr's Path, book 2

Jorundyr's Path is walked only by the brave. It is survived only by the strong. As Wulfric pursues Adalhaid's Blood Debt, he soon learns that the path to revenge is never easy, and the desires of men and the will of gods rarely meet. Aethelman seeks answers to questions long ignored. Rodulf chases power and wealth.

From the streets of Elzburg to the dry plains of Darvaros, Wulfric walks Jorundyr's Path and encounters a world larger than he could ever have dreamed of, filled with friends, enemies, and danger—the crucible from which heroes are forged.

The Blood Debt, book 3

A blade fit for a hero. An army for a tyrant. A reckoning long awaited, and a tale reaching its end.

Couldn’t put it down

First book I’ve read from this author, and I really enjoyed it
Felt quite invested in the characters by the end
Had a lump in my throat at the book’s conclusion.

Great story. I liked the style in which the story was told. It was well written and paced. It didn't feel like the was any filler content.

A refreshing new story. The Narater made the story come alive, easy to listen to.

Great listen.

Rollicking good adventure in the style of the Norse/Scandinavian sagas. Brilliantly performed. Absolute well worth the credit.

Could have been so much more, a classic even

The Wolf of the North. What a title. What a premise in so many ways. Yet it all falls so short. In apparently a year or so in world time our hero goes from unknown to legend. But the book describes so little of any legendary deeds, if any. A few battles here and there. Near the end of that year the hero gets his legendary named sword, but the author really goes out of his way to let you know that he thinks a hero having a legendary named sword is really unnecessary. Which is why he gets it at the end of his time in becoming a legend. Again, in just the matter of a year... A couple weeks after getting the sword, it's used to kill the heros girl, and that's the most legendary thing the legendary sword ever does. Then the book is basically over, except for skipping 20-30 years, when the hero should have actually been becoming a legend with his legendary sword, and the book is over. So underwhelming when the entire premise could have been so much more. Our hero is basically a brain dead meat head. No specific virtues other than loving one woman. I'd like to rewrite the Wolf of the North myself, and do it right. And strike the memory of this version from existence.

waste of time

same old garbage. bad guy catches good guy but does not kill him and of course regrets it later. nothing original

reader has no range in his voice so every character sounds very much the same.

Decent but not great

I've been looking for a good series to hold me over until other books came out. After reading reviews I figured this would be a good series. While there were good moments during the story telling I found myself more often than not drifting off and no longer paying attention to the point I had to backtrack and relisten to those moments. The climax and ending left me feeling cheated and saying to myself "sooo, that's it?" It was a good series to pass the time but I probably wouldn't recommend it.

A great ride through the tropes

Standard fantasy fare that keeps the story moving. A good companion for driving, cleaning the house, or going for a long walk. Pretty predictable, but it is the ride that has the fun.

Needs Editor

This series goes downhill from middling to silly. The lack of proper editing becomes increasingly painful, allowing incessant repetition, cliche, and comical anachronisms.. A Post Office? Seriously? Even Mr. Vance, wonderful as always, can't save it.

Well worth the listen. I would listen to more by this author. He crafted a very complete story in a not too large space.

Epic

What a masterful job of shaping one childhood vendetta into a deep story arc, which like the font stone, I could not put down. I’ve been pining to find worlds like this that balance the fantastic and the mundane since finishing Abercrombie’s The Blade Itself. A treat!

Mills & Boon meets Game of Thrones

I really tried with this but it is utter tripe. Flat narration of a very dull tale populated by cliched characters. How it has received such positive reader reviews is a complete mystery to me. I feel a fool for wasting my monthly credit on this when the Booker prize shortlist is landing on Audible.

Negative and the villain runs the story

DNF first book, but skipped ahead to finish the story. What a bad story it is. It’s so black and white. Good guys are stupid and the villains have all the plans leading them around and around. We also got a plot armored magic stone that gives the MC some power, but mostly it gives the priest that kills his village and then the moronic boy villain everything (and I mean everything, I wish I was him in this story). The story is so negative and the ending is ofc tragic. The romance was nice in the beginning, but they are apart too long etc. she even dates another one. So if you are in to a sad story this is for you, I hated it.

Best Ever!

I could not put this book down (and I don’t say that often) This is an epic story that spans the life of a realistic, flawed wonderful hero. Men and women alike will enjoy these books. Fans of GOT or LOTRs would love them. It is brought to life with a fabulous narrator who is masterful at producing a wondrous variety of voices making the characters real. With the ageing of time through the books the voices of characters matured.
Fantastic book / story. Magnificent reading, will definitely be listening to another from this author and narrator.
This story would do well as an epic film trilogy - yes please.
Thank you to all involved.

Not Epic by any stretch of the imagination.

Small self contained story that pulls from established tropes of the genre without fleshing out anything. A nice short read with an abrupt and unsatisfying ending. Nothing epic about it except for the embellishments in Yagaveer's tall tales..

steady paced story, no fluff to listen to

above average story for most part with some story blocks forcing certain choices to be made, over the character getting in and out safe from situations

only big let down was the abrupt spoiler

ending, which just finished a bit to quickly, with no explanations to family and friends

just such a bad story

i dont write reviews usually, but this was just so bad in every way.

to put it simply, its a fairly bad and story and at the end the storyteller even tells you that the best bits were lies/embelishments as well.

First book kind of sounds like it may be setting up something interesting, but second book turns it all to rubbish, I guess I only listened to the third because i was too lazy to find something else to listen to and hoped it may be going somewhere, it wasnt (or at least nowhere interesting in any way).

A decent story well narrated.

Vance does a great job if bringing the characters to life. The story itself isn't groundbreaking but it is well written and reminiscent of the likes of Joe Abercrombie or perhaps David Gemmel.
