Publisher's Summary

Includes an exclusive introduction from the author.

The international number one best-selling author of The Notebook, Nicholas Sparks, is back with his most epic story yet.

What if the person you needed most turned up when you least expected them?

Maggie hasn't told this story in years. More than two decades ago, she fell in love. She was 16 and far from home, waiting to give her baby up for adoption. Bryce showed Maggie how to take photographs, and he didn't judge her for the way her belly swelled under her jumper. They had the perfect first kiss. Theirs was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of love.

Now, as Maggie sits by the Christmas tree in her gallery telling her story, surrounded by the photographs that made her famous - the photographs Bryce never saw - her new gallery assistant asks her a question. If she had one wish, what would she wish for this Christmas?

Maggie always thought she knew the answer to that question. But before she can say 'I'd go back to that winter with Bryce', she stops herself. It is all she has ever wanted, but, suddenly, here, on this dark night under the twinkling stars, there is something else she wants. She wants to find her baby.

A heart-wrenching and uplifting story about discovery and loss, The Wish is a reminder that time with those precious to us is the greatest gift of all.

Disappointing

I didn’t finish this as I didn’t feel like I could manage to. Not only did the story seem like it was going nowhere, but I found the narration incredibly annoying. Every second sentence it seemed had the narrators do an annoying little laugh thing as they were talking! Once I noticed it I couldn’t bear it anymore. Nicholas Sparks is one of my favourite authors, so I may try this on kindle, but will have to give myself sometime to get over how annoyed I feel I wasted so much time on this.

Hidden Gem

it took me a short while to gel with this book and started to question why I'd choose it... as I listened on, it became more and more beautiful and gripping and I'm so glad that I kept going as the ending was magnificent and so very moving. Thank-you

Memorial, emotional and beautiful

Wow, what a emotional story. It made me cry laugh and feel really feel for Maggie and the life she had endured. Love concurred all for her, unconditional love was her heart. This made her strong love.
I will read this story again because it made me feel really feel. Another great story from Nicolas sparks 💕

Boring but heartwarming ending

Unpopular opinion...I feel so heartless I didn’t feel much from this book haha, apart from the ending!

Pick this up if you enjoy and/or don’t mind:

🐢 Turtle pace slow burn friends to lovers (and I normally love slow burn romances)

💑 Coming of age teen Romance

🤏 Not much romance

🤰 Split between past and present with an emphasis on the past and Maddy’s pregnancy

⚕️ Heavy topic (the medical diagnosis)

😭 A bit sad and depressing

What I enjoyed:

Honestly I don’t have much to say about this book because not much actually happened.
It was nicely written and the characters were well developed.
The only thing I actually liked was the ending even though it was MEGA predictable. It did hit me in the feels. But I wish it was throughout.

What I didn’t enjoy:

This book wasn’t what I expected, I just couldn't connect with the story or Maddy. Really not much happened at all as the majority of the book explored Maddy’s past in Ocracoke and in painfully minute detail of her thoughts and uneventful days. Boring.

I kept on waiting for something to happen but it just kept dragging on and on and the chapters were so long. Luckily I had the audio book and listened while walking, else I probably would've cracked it and lost my patience reading it.

Absolutely fantastic

I played this book whilst doing my daily walk. I never missed a walk, as this amazing book was waiting to be heard. I am not sure what people thought of me walking and crying but I don't care.

Easy Listening

I think the performances by the readers contributed hugely to the story line which was a bit predictable and a little drawn out. If you are looking for a lovely book, easy story line and easy listening then this is for you.

Mundane! WTF with all the 5 stars reviews

Expectations were high when I purchased this book, being familiar with Nicholas Sparks books. The first thing that caught my attention was the lack of characterization of Baby Daddy and the event surrounding that part of the plot. The middle of the book was bogged down in mundane details. Maggie washes dishes, Maggie rides the ferry, Maggie washes more dishes, Maggie takes another photo or two. Then Bryce. Then Mark. Then the choices she makes again. All very predicable. Very disappointing listen. I did finish it because the other people raved about it. Not sure what I missed but it seems Mr. Sparks suddenly wanted it to be over and it was. Boom. Cannot say anything else without spoiling it for someone who has not finished it.

Mela Lee and Will Collyer were just OK with the delivery of a boring story
