Publisher's Summary

This program includes a bonus conversation with the authors, Alyson Richman and Lauren Willig.

The next powerful audiobook from the author of The Two-Family House, about two sisters working in a WWII armory, each with a deep secret.

Two estranged sisters, raised in Brooklyn and each burdened with her own shocking secret, are reunited at the Springfield Armory in the early days of WWII. While one sister lives in relative ease on the bucolic armory campus as an officer’s wife, the other arrives as a war widow and takes a position in the armory factories as a “soldier of production”. Resentment festers between the two, and secrets are shattered when a mysterious figure from the past reemerges in their lives.

Praise for The Wartime Sisters:

"One of my favorite books of the year." (Fiona Davis, national best-selling author of The Dollhouse and The Masterpiece)

"Loigman’s strong voice and artful prose earn her a place in the company of Alice Hoffman and Anita Diamant, whose readers should flock to this wondrous new book." (Pam Jenoff, New York Times best-selling author of The Orphan’s Tale)

"The Wartime Sisters shows the strength of women on the home front: to endure, to fight, and to help each other survive.” (Jenna Blum, New York Times and international best-selling author of The Lost Family and Those Who Save Us)

Best Book I've Read/Listened to in a Long Time

This is probably the best book I've read/Listened to in a long time. The narrator was really good. The storyline was captivating and it flowed really good. The research was well done.

Horrible Narration

This book was difficult for me to get through and, if it had not been a book club choice, I would not have finished it. The story of the sisters' relationship is overly simplified as one ruled by the childhood jealousy, resentment, and bitterness of the older sister because of the younger sister's beauty. The fact that as an adult the older sister still was obsessed was ridiculous. That would have been ok, but the narrator's horrific attempts at accents and consistent mispronunciation of the word "pinochle" and other words was so irritating that it kept throwing me off. Never again with this narrator.

WWII Must Read

I absolutely love reading different perspectives on WWII. Whether it's family stories or how women were spies for their country, how Jews fought to stay alive, and even how other countries fought for their freedom...I can't seem to get enough of these amazing stories.

My high school English teacher wouldn’t accept this

Ridiculously underdeveloped writing. If you enjoyed The Nightingale or Lilac Girls, then move on. I cannot imagine that there was more than a weekend put into creating this book.

Narrator ruined it

I don't like to write negative reviews, but this narrator truely ruined the story for me. It didn't help that the author, with good intentions, let melodrama overtake the historical setting of the narrative.

how hard is it to pronounce pinochle correctly?

I found the narration annoying - her Yiddish accent was awful , and her Italian not much better.
