Publisher's Summary

Emma, Brian, Flynn, Cooper, and Paadini are the lucky few who’ve survived the deadly pandemic EV-01-H virus, or the Vermilion Strain. It is a contagion so virulent that it has caused an extinction-level event. None of them have seen humans for weeks, and no one is coming to help them.

They must each find the courage to carve out a new life in a new reality and a new world. They must learn new skills and face challenges that they never bargained for.

What is out there, awaiting them? Will the human species blink out of existence?

Each day is a gamble - a stratagem of life and death.

Engaging

The Vermilion Strain is an apocalyptic extinction book that had me invested in the main character group as they prepare themselves for this new world. Their personal, mental and physical growth was exponential. The comparison & truths to Casper's tyrannical existence and rule of terror and other males as destructive as him stayed with me.

Captivating Story

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. From the start, I was captivated by this story. It's set in a world where a virus has knocked out the majority of the population, which is very eerie considering the times we are in with COVID-19 right now. The author explored the various reactions of the survivors, and created a realistic view of that the world would be like post viral annihilation. As much as I enjoyed the book, be forewarned that some of the dialog was a little off, and the narration wasn't the best. (if you speed up the narration, it makes it a much easier listen) If you give it a chance though, the content of the book far outweighs the less than stellar narration. The characters are well developed, and the plot is very unique for this genre. Overall this book is thought-provoking and entertaining, and well worth a listen.

The Vermillion Strain

Ok,despite being a bit repetitious at times I loved this book.It may have been because it was located in places I know.Imagine my surprise to find R.B.Winter and Amish country everyone elses idea of possible safe havens when society breaks down! Some things came way too easy to these folks, but it is fantasy after all. Kevin Moody was a good narrator, though accents came off oddly.I will be looking for more from this author.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'

A hopeful, simple story.

First read it on Kindle, loved this simple hopefully story so much I bought the audio. It's now one of my favorites post apocalypse story along with 'The Last Tribe' and 'Odd Billy Todd' The narrator could use some improvements. Good one book story.

"Honest Review in Exchange for Promotional Copy"

About 98% of world population decimated by a very aggressive viral outbreak. Most of the story follows a couple groups of people coming to terms with their new reality and working together to survive in their new world. The was a decent post-apocalyptic survival story and the ending gives the reader a sense of hope for the survival of humanity. Ok

The way people are written as speaking is not how everyone talks. It sounds like someone proofread this book making all speech sound over proper. The story is interesting, although the narrator takes getting used to. It’s something you can listen to buy not thrilling or moving by any means.

Thrilling

I found this book to be quite thrilling and exciting. It was very interesting to imagine the world where so many people have been killed off by a deadly virus. Leaving the survivors having to figure out how to survive like it was the 1700s all over again. The author did a very good job of showing the survivors learning to adapt to the new environment. I would highly recommend this book. And I hope that someday we get to visit these characters again.

Interesting, different take on Post-Apocalypse

This was unique, in a good way, from almost every other post-apocalyptic story I've listened to or read. Without giving too much away, this one seemed far more down to earth and realistic as to how things might go. Very refreshing and enjoyable. I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair review.

Entertaining but do the sample listen first

Let me start by saying I am a huge fan of this genre. Given this, I enjoyed the story and listened to the end wanting to know how it all turned out. The story had a message of hope and I really liked just thinking about all the preparations that the characters go through would be necessary in this situation. It made me wonder how I would fare. Having said all of that I'm going to advise anyone considering getting the book to first listen to the audio sample. I found the dialogue to be very awkward and the way it was narrated seemed to only accentuate that. As the book progressed I actually found that I was somewhat entertained by how unnatural everyone sounded. I kept saying to myself, who would ever talk like that. Even with that though I found the book worthwhile and I'm glad I listened to it.

The Vermilion Strain

A read that brings the life of a group of people and how it affects them, they must do what they can to survive. The scenes are written very well and the Narrator brings out each individual person so you can tell which characters are in the scenes. The Characters are also very well developed from the Author. A great read. Shauna Joesten

Quite enjoyable!

S.A. Ison does brilliantly depicts a stark setting, where humanity is on the brink of extinction from a pandemic. What I liked about S.A. Ison's writing is that he didn't go for the shock factor. The few that have survived band together and they aren't any pressing confrontations with bad guys. I've read and listened to many post-apocalyptic, and at times the tension is so high or shocking that I've been tempted to skip certain scenes. Kevin S. Moody's narration is smooth, and his portrayal of the characters was nicely done. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this audiobook. I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Post apocalyptic hope

The ‘nicest’ dystopian drama I’ve ever read. All the bad guys die, they save all the children and everyone hard working and respectable lives happily ever after. Perhaps this is a rather simplistic view. I actually listened to this while recovering from a mild version of the Covid19 virus so I probably didn’t want the worst case scenario. It spurred me on while preparing my own vegetable garden and I too would advocate the merits of a more self sufficient future. But this was not a gritty story with complex personalities and high drama. But it wasn’t dreadful and it helped while away a few hours of my lockdown.

Terrible!

I have to start by saying I gave up on this book & returned it after listening to 2.5 hours. I am a great fan of this genre & was looking forward to reading something a little less violent & confrontational. The story started of promising enough with some interesting scene setting. However, as some of the characters came together I found the dialogue to be extremely clumsy & unnatural & the narrator’s sing-song delivery was downright odd. It didn’t fit the story line nor the actual dialogue it was delivering. Very strange.

Great apocalyptic listen

This book kept me engrossed from start to finish. There is minimal violence, which makes a change in books of this type. Recommended.
