Publisher's Summary

A Pride and Prejudice variation.

Mr. Darcy arrives at Longbourn, intending to correct the mistakes he made during his disastrous proposal in Hunsford. To his horror, he learns Elizabeth Bennet was killed in a ship’s explosion off the coast of France - in an apparent act of sabotage. Deep in despair, he travels in disguise to wartime France to seek out the spy responsible for her death.

But a surprise awaits Darcy in the French town of Saint-Malo: Elizabeth is alive!

Recovering from a blow to the head, Elizabeth has no memory of her previous life, and a series of mistakes leads her to believe Darcy is her husband. However, they have even bigger problems. As they travel through a hostile country, the saboteur mobilizes Napoleon’s network of spies to capture them and prevent them from returning home. Elizabeth slowly regains her memories, but they often leave her more confused.

Darcy will do anything to help Elizabeth reach England safely, but what will she think of him when she learns the truth of their relationship?

Imaginative

Elizabeth is presumed by the time Mr. Darcy arrives at Longborn to renew his addresses. She was on a boat on her way to visit a friend off the coast of wartime France when her ship blew up. Mr. Darcy was devistated. He goes to France to find closure by recovering her body and seeking revenge on the double agent that was responsible for her death. He is injured in a botched attempted robbery. When he went to seek medical attention, he found Elizabeth unconscious but quite alive. The adventure begins when they head for home.

Immensely Delightful, Engaging Story

It’s been decades since I read Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice”, but I do remember the tension between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy. Ms. Kincaid has written a captivating story that sustains interest throughout its development. She cleverly maintains the tension between Elizabeth and Darcy without overdoing it and while developing their growing attraction. It’s an enormously fun read, and I greatly look forward to listening to more of her books.

I loved this story!

This is one of my favorite Pride and Prejudice stories. I wasn't sure if I was going to like all the wartime involvement but I was quickly drawn in. So much so that I finished the book in one day and was sad when it came to an end. The icing on the cake was Stevie' Zimmerman as narrator. She's my favorite!

C'était magnifique!!! 😍 😚

Another wonderful book by Victoria Kincaid. The storyline in this book is quite unique and I really enjoyed it. The tenderness that Mr Darcy expresses with Elizabeth is quite moving and humbling.
Stevie Zimmerman, as always, brings the story to life.

Lovely P&P Variation!

Since P&P is one of my favorite novels and Mr. Darcy probably one of my favorite characters of all time, I was excited to read this variation. I was pleasantly surprised that it kept true to the characters. The writing is very good and the chemistry between Darcy and Elizabeth is palpable. I love the twist the author put on the story and it’s departure from canon. The narrator is very good and really adds to the story. If you love P&P, you’ll enjoy this.

Enjoyed.

Excellent from beginning to the end. No mindless description of insignificant details such as lace on a dress, color of waistcoats etc. Some authors use that method as a way simply to fill pages. This P and P story keeps ones attention and it becomes difficult to quit listening. Loved the narration as well as this exciting tale of Elizabeth and Darcy.

Beautifully Written, Excellently Narrated

I liked the book well enough to read it several times, add Stevie Zimmerman's narration and it becomes an absolute favorite! She gives each voice a distinct character and timbre. I now look for only her Audible books as I have been spoiled and find other readers almost grating.

Thoroughly enjoyable!

I enjoyed everything about his book - an original P & P variation, well articulated story line and Austen characters true to form. All very well narrated by Ms Zimmerman.

Sweet story

This is a very sweet Pride and Prejudice variation. Darcy comes to Longbourne to try to convince Elizabeth that he loves her and that they should marry. When he arrives, he is told that Elizabeth was killed in an explosion of the ship on which she was a passenger near France. Broken hearted, Darcy goes to France to avenge her death only to find her alive with amnesia.
He tells her that he is her husband and that they must escape back to England. France and England are at war and getting back to England is dangerous. The story is about their perilous journey and their pretend relationship. Very sweet story and also exciting. The narration is excellent.

Great story line......horrible narration!

I was so excited to listen to this book until the narrator took on different voices for the characters. She made Darcy sound like he had a bad case of the flu and was losing his voice and she made him sound so deadpan and lacking emotion even when he declared love for Elizabeth
. I had to work really hard to overlook the voice she gave Darcy and try and concentrate on the story. It was so awful. She had a pleasing voice when she read normally, but I would not listen to another book read by her. The story line was a good one and I would definitely recommend the “book” but would not recommend the audible version.
