Publisher's Summary
This brand-new unabridged audiobook of The Two Towers, the second part of J. R. R. Tolkien’s epic adventure, The Lord of the Rings, is read by the BAFTA award-winning actor, director and author Andy Serkis.
The company of the Ring is torn asunder. Frodo and Sam continue their journey alone down the great River Anduin - alone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go.
This continues the classic tale begun in The Fellowship of the Ring, which reaches its awesome climax in The Return of the King.
Critic Reviews
"Masterpiece? Oh yes, I’ve no doubt about that." (Evening Standard)
"The English-speaking world is divided into those who have read The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and those who are going to read them." (Sunday Times)
An extraordinary book. It deals with a stupendous theme. It leads us through a succession of strange and astonishing episodes, some of them magnificent, in a region where everything is invented, forest, moor, river, wilderness, town and the races which inhabit them.’ (The Observer)

Amazing
Two Towers is just as amazing as the Fellowship. Great peformance by Mr. Serkis. I was really looking forward to hear the Smeagol in this one and it was just like from movie! It's unbelievable that he really does it without any sound effects.
Only one thing bothered me here just like in Fellowship. The singing. There is so much of it and the songs are very long so sometimes I had to skip them. I never noticed it in the books, probably because I was just reading them without singing.
Otherwise, what else can I say? It's Tolkien, of course I recommend!

We all should know the story behind these books, so I wont go into detail about that, other than to say that the books are much more different than the movies.
Andy Serkis (who plays Gollum in the movies) is a master of voices and he brings these skills into reading Tolken's Lord of the Rings. I can really recommend these as Serkis is a national treasure and you can feel that he has a deep love and respect for these books.

Incredible to listen too
The performance that Andy Serkis gives in this version of the two towers is incredible. It was nice to hear gollum’s voice again voicing all of the dialogue rather than snippets from the films. How Andy portrays the orcs is also amazing, each orc has a different voice which really adds to the depth of the story.
I also like the fact that the book is split in half, between the two sets of characters so it doesn’t feel jarring going from plot to plot. Would highly recommend.

Serkis gives this everything! I wish he hadn't
I really enjoyed Serkis' highly animated reading of The Fellowship, but this one just takes it too far. It's more like a one-man radio play than an audiobook. The orc and ent voices in particular are so over-the-top that I spent the entirety of several sections cringing and desperately wanting them to be over. Good luck listening to this for evening relaxation; if you set the volume to be able to hear the quieter sections, you will have to endure full-on shouting from Serkis when the action picks up. It's certainly a strong performance, but I'm wondering who exactly briefed him and why they didn't suggest he tone things down a bit. The best thing I can say about this one is at least there weren't as many songs to endure. Although the ent song is particularly painful, I skipped through most of it.

Serkis has done a fantastic job in narrating the trilogy. This was a great experience as a first time reader of the trilogy. Serkis does a fantastic job in creating the atmosphere with each character distinctive voices that are connected to the movies and, of course, you cannot forget the performance of Gollum.
