Publisher's Summary

The instant New York Times best seller! In this twisty psychological thriller from the number one New York Times best-selling author of The Cellar, Ivy finds out that her twin sister, Iris, is trying to push her out of her own life - and might be responsible for their mother's death.

After their parents divorced, 10-year-old twins Ivy and Iris were split up - Ivy lived with Dad, Iris with Mom. Now, after a tragic accident takes their mom's life, the twins are reunited and Iris moves in with Ivy and their dad. Devastated over Mom's death, Iris spends the first few weeks in almost total silence - the only person she will speak to is Ivy. Iris feels her life is over and she doesn't know what to do. Ivy promises her twin that she can share her life now. After all, they're sisters. Twins. It's a promise that Iris takes seriously. And before long, Ivy's friends, her life at school, and her boyfriend, Tyler, fall under Iris' spell. Slowly, Ivy realizes she's being pushed out of her own life. But she's just being paranoid, right? And Mom's accident was...just an accident. Right? It's not like she - or Dad - or Tyler - are in any danger....

This narrator is not good.

I enjoyed the story even if it did feel obvious. That seems to be the way of things in fiction though, people never see the truly obvious or seem capable of catching on to whats happening. However, I found it to be a very entertaining story. This book is worth a read.
What ruined the book was the narrator. It took half the book just to get used to her voice. It was annoying in a way that is hard to put into words and felt slightly nasally, kind of gravelly but definitely better suited for cartoon characters than book narration. She would probably excel in that field of work. The hardest part was trying to figure out what was going on between the characters. When there is a book to look at you can see what is inner monologue and what is actual character dialogue. When you are listening to a book, you have to rely on the narrator to emphasize the differences. Not only did this narrator not find a way to let me know if it was dialogue, or just something going through the protagonists head, but also every character in the book was read the same. It was difficult, especially during intense back and forth dialogue, to keep up with who was saying what. I feel like I could have enjoyed this book so much more if they had used someone who has experience with and is capable of doing different character voices in the narration. This is so important for the listener when you do not have a book in front of you.

Started okay, ended badly

Okay so the book I felt had a lot of potential. The ending was just so torturously bad it put a bad taste in my mouth

the ending was stupid not satisfying at all

sorry to say but the book kinda made me upset because it didn't end good. I'm a big fan of Natasha but this book was a mess. it was going good at the beginning and the middle but the ending leaves you on a cliffhanger and I don't see a second book coming out sooo don't buy this with your money use credit instead.

Prestons Worse Book

First let me say that this book took me foreverrrrrrrr to finish simply because I could not get over the narrators voice. Her narration of the main character came off as whiney and is almost impossible to listen to for a long period of time.

The story itself dragged. The same thing happens in EVERY SINGLE CHAPTER with no avail. Aside from the “villain” the main character and supporting characters are super weak. I understand its about manipulation but no one is that dumb. Especially if the main character has this “perfect” & always honest background. Most of the thrill is the last 15 minutes of the book and even then.....lets just say its frustrating.

Don’t get me wrong I am a big fan of Prestons books... but this one...Nope. Just no.

I love Natasha Preston and all of her works. This story kept you on the edge of your seat, as a thriller should! But the ending just gutted me!

Great!

Felt like you knew what was gonna happen, but then there was great twists that still kept the ending a mystery!
