Publisher's Summary

Steamy, sexy, and laugh-out-loud funny, The Truth About Cowboys is a new contemporary novel that will pull your heartstrings and steam up your listening device....

While I was off pitching in the big leagues, my family was back in the small town of Sweetwater, Texas, running the family ranch. Then tragedy hit and I discovered there were secrets that my family kept, problems they hid. I went home, left behind the money, women, and fame. I took over the ranch and took care of my grandmother. I took over hiding the secrets. Then she came to town. A smart-mouthed, clumsy, too-smart-and-too-pretty-for-my-own-good city girl hiding out to write a book. She's right here, on my property, in the cottage my grandmother rented her without my permission, and she sees too much. She knows too much.

Now suddenly my world is spinning, and she's shoving a baseball back in my hand while baking cookies with my grandmother. She's the devil and an angel all in one fiery little package. I decide I'll wait her out. She'll go back to the city. Only suddenly I don't want her to leave, and everything I’ve settled for in my life isn't enough. I want to play ball and I want her, but there's that secret that won't let go, but neither will she.

DNF

Didn’t get into this. Narrators couldn’t save it. Knew not to continue when I groaned when I saw 6 hours was still to go. Not enough going on - suspense of the reveals to come not there. Obvious plot line to come (more than usual in this genre). Have returned.

swoons...

The angst is a live entity in this one (fans self). That thin line between love and hate in this tale is oh soooo thin- a bit blurry even. It really is a great read. Parts had me laughing my head off and my husband looking like I was crazy. Other pieces make their anger palpable. The Wranglers and cowboys hats add to the appeal. I can say the one part I wish developed a bit more is the ex getting served more trouble after his actions but that is more of a cause and a minor blip in the grand scheme of the story. Also, I really want cookies now and we don't have any in the house. This book causes all kinds of cravings.

Too little of Sebastian...

The story is great and Andi's narration is flawless as always. I just wished Sebastian had more participation.

Good, but

I liked this book overall but the H was an asshole one too many times for me. The book was very well written, but I would have kicked his ass down the road for good. The book was also very well performed.

Eye roll

I’m sorry, but Jason is a jerk. Not sure why Jess loves him. She should have told him to f-off the first time he yelled at her and never looked back.

Not what I expected, in the best way

The book is wonderful. Fast paced, romantic, typically angsty, but not overdone. And, of course, you can’t go wrong with Sebastian York and Andi Arndt.

Feminism grade: B+

Pretty good listen for when you can't find anything else to listen to on a Friday night. That being said, it's nothing special. I gave it a B+ in feminism because at times, Jessica came across as tstl and the drama being a bit too contrived. But again, nothing too bad.

Really liked it.

Wonderful dual POV narration, lots of buildup and a different storyline. Loved it! Starting the second book immediately. Highly recommended.

The Truth About Cowboys

This was a fun, entertaining, and sweet journey to go on Jason and Jessica. They both have some issues trusting, they have a back and forth relationship with each other, but they develop a cute friendship. I enjoyed the ride they went in discovering what they could have if they let go of the past. I adored this story. Of course, Sebastian York and Andi Arndt were perfection. They are both amazing narrators.

Cookie Cowboy

I am hooked on Lisa Renee Jones style of storytelling. This was a real sweet adventure for a divorce lawyer who is trying to save her sanity after discovering her fiancee in bed with his secretary while be placed on administrative leave from her job. Boy what a ride.⚘⚘⚘

True connection elusive

If you want to read about the stereotypical down on her luck female falling for the classic hunky athlete struggling with major life losses then maybe you will enjoy this book. However, if you're turned off by ridiculous set up scenes that you see coming from a mile away like a bad episode of Three's Company, then maybe you might want to pass this one up. For example, I am both an avid baker and an owner of multiple cats, and yet never have I ever had to strip naked after colliding with my cat and spilling a bowl full of chocolate frosting on my boobs... and wouldn't you know, that very thing happens to Jessica. AND Jason (aka the hunky athlete) just happens to walk in at the very moment she is naked and covered in chocolate frosting. Also, the constant back and forth conflict where he's hot for her one minute then he's accusing her of X, Y, and Z the next minute, and then he realizes he messed up and apologizes and is hot for her again....is unbearable. I guess ultimately the biggest problem I have with this book is that I don't get what she sees in him beyond the physical attraction. She appreciates his looks and athleticism and his love for his grandmother, but to me, you need more to a lifelong relationship than that and it's just not there at all. It's all about the hot sex, awkward compromising situations, and "heartfelt" apologies for presumptive and inaccurate accusations.
