About this listen

Jo Spain is a sublime storyteller . . . this is a book you won't want to put down' JANE CASEY

2014, Dublin: at St Edmunds, an elite college on the outskirts of the city, twenty-year-old medical student Theo gets up one morning, leaving behind his sleeping girlfriend, Dani, and his studies - never to be seen again. With too many unanswered questions, Dani simply can't accept Theo's disappearance and reports him missing, even though no one else seems concerned, including Theo's father.

Ten years later, Dani returns to the college as a history professor. With her mother suffering from severe dementia, and her past at St Edmunds still haunting her, she's trying for a new start. But not all is as it seems behind the cloistered college walls - meanwhile, Dani is hiding secrets of her own.

Great one from Jo Spain. Dani has great potential as a character.

i thoroughly enjoyed this although it did strain credibility. Not fully convinced by all the aspects of university protocols, hiring procedures and academic relations -- especially when one character seems to undergo a personality transformation for no explained reason. But on the whole i thought it was a return to top form by Jo Spain.

V. enjoyable story even if it strains credibility

Another enjoyable mystery by Jo Spain. Narration was engaging and easy to listen to. I loved the characters and hope to see follow up books following Dani’s career.

Good Whodunit

Great story, going back and forward from 2014 to 2024 although necessary to the plot, was annoying. This method does challenge the reader’s brain though!

Great Intrigue

The best Jo Spain book to date! The story moved along at a good pace with plenty of twists & turns to keep me guessing. The conclusion wasn’t what I expected. The Irish lilt of the narrator was appropriate to the setting & storyline plus I love the accent

Great story & great narration
