Publisher's Summary

From Michael Wolff, author of the explosive, number one best seller Fire and Fury, comes the mesmerizing story behind the most bizarre melt-down in recent American political history.

The decline and fall of Rudy Giuliani, from “America’s Mayor” to public spectacle, has all the makings of a modern Shakespearean tragedy. Those who know Giuliani, whose tough leadership and even tougher politics helped revitalize New York City in the 1990s and lead the country through 9/11, have stood by and watched with incredulity as he put himself at the heart of impeachment charges against the President.

In The Tragedy of Rudy Giuliani, Michael Wolff uncovers just what happened to the iconoclastic former mayor, and reveals how his apparent self-destruction frames some of the great political questions of the age: How have evidently unstable people come to have such success in institutional politics? How have the mean and nasty achieved such heights in a system that has valued – insisted on – likeability and conventionality?

Interesting

For someone who is not American and hasn’t had too much exposure to Giuliani, this was a very interesting listen. The book pushes the narrative that he is descending into madness. Watching him from the other side of the world it certainly does appear that way, but the book did seem somewhat unbalanced and biased. The author has a number of anti Trump books so I guess it all fits!

What a crock of S__t

This is a waste of 2 hours I will never get back.
No prejudice here! I get more realistic information from the examiner. And you know that’s tabloid junk this is too.

Thoroughly meanspirited disappointment.

Listen, I'm no fan of Rudy Giuliani but this is a terrible book. The tone is SO sour and SO meanspirited - and let me once again say, that I'm on the same "side" as Wolff here. His descriptions of the women in Guiliani's life are narrow, ugly, and misogynist and he stoops to fat-shaming Guiliani and Steve Bannon which is a lazy way of impugning character that in this case is not necessary whatsoever. Bannon has no character to impugn. It's really a shame because the rise and fall of Guiliani is indeed interesting. Being a Californian, my image of Guiliani was of the brave, calm mayor of New York after 9/11, with his hardhat on, bringing New York together in the wake of tragedy. I didn't realize he was relatively unhinged and unsavory before that time. I'm really disappointed because I wondered how this brave, noble mayor turned into a screaming Trump acolyte but Wolff's book puts the pieces together but in such an ugly way that I didn't have the stomach to finish the book.

Waste of time

No real content. Not informative. Emotional and hateful tone. I was interested in learning the facts, wanted to hear some good investigative reporting. This is not it.

Lacked substance- could have been much better.

Flat narration and lacked substance. I get it- the author hates Rudy and Trump. Rudy was portrayed as nothing more than a manic, loathing, drunken, obese, attention seeking sloth. I didn’t need to spend 2 hours to hear that over and over.

Biased, Subjective, Agenda Driven

This is exactly the reason I am discontinuing my audible membership which I have had for years. There are no citations, lots of unnamed sources, unless you count Roger Ailes, a dead man, who he quotes for half the story. We know know the disgusting Russian women accusations toward Trump were bought and paid for illegally with campaign contributions by Hillary Clinton. Boo hoo poor Hunter and Joe Biden picked on for lining their pockets in the Ukraine but Trump is the bad guy. There are so many biased inaccuracies in this read. Nothing fact based, just more propaganda which Audible continues to promote. Try reading Bill OReilly’s book on Trump if you want a book that seems somewhat reasonable and uses factual, provable, cited information. This listen is pure garbage.

There are no facts in here

There are no facts in this audiobook, you can tell that the author just has a problem with Trump, Giuliani, and Bannon. This book is one persons hatred of the Right. Not worth your time.

Very biased piece of work.

Mr. Wolff is obviously a very left leaning individual. I went into hoping to gain some knowledge. Didn’t happen. Glad it was free listen. Will think twice about listening to anything Mr. Wolff may write in the future.

I’ll drink to that….

As I listened to Wolf’s ‘Landslide’ (which I highly recommend), it occurred to me that I would probably enjoy a similar book about Giuliani.

Clearly those evil algorithms that monitor our thoughts got a hold of this and produced this audiobook.

It’s focussed on Giuliani’s contributions to the Trump Shitshow and I would actually love to know more about his time as New York Mayor but it’s a great listen and I quite enjoyed something just a couple of hours long for a change.

Only reservation was that whilst Mr Wolff is a terrific writer and clearly knows his subject, he’s not a narrator. However, he does an okay job and doesn’t ruin the book.

Interesting Content, spoit.

by a lack luster reader. Mispronounced often, random emphasis common.
The narrative is interesting, kind and perceptive. What a pity.

a real decline and fall....

I have all Michael Wolffs books about Donald Trump on audio and I like his style of writing and his often laugh out loud humour. This brief look at 'Americas Mayor' has uncovered a nasty piece of work in Rudy Giuliani. Some reviewers have commented on the narration and to begin with I also found Michael Wolff voice slightly off putting. However 5 minutes in and it was perfect for the writing style - as I guess it would be. The lengths that Giuliani and other major players went to and continue to go to just to hold power is is truly breathtaking. Incompetence does not get in the way of achievement and the details that are drawn out by Micheal Wolff seem more in sorrow than in anger. There is quite a lot written elsewhere about Giulianis prosecution of the Mafia in New York and of course 9/11 so he is not an unknown figure. Always ready to self promote - truthfully or not - Guilianis self-aggrandising is is very evident in this profile. Well worth a listen

Laughing out loud in parts.

Although essentially about Rudy Guiliani, because the two could not be seperated and his puppy dog devotion.q Trump fills a good deal of the broadcast, besides there's no show without Punch! So it's true the more immoral, without empathy, vile, mysoginistic, villianous, nasty, money grubbing, thick, stumbling over that fine line between sanity and full blown psychiatric meltdown You can become, are, or aspire to, Mayor Of New York. Most definitely become a President. Dump though in his case was uneducated and even he didn't think for one minute he'd be nominated never mind elected! It was a joke, he was a joke, the country nearly ended 2020 the laughing stock of the world.
