Publisher's Summary

I got the dreaded phone call, the one every baseball player hopes and prays never comes. I was traded - yeah, that phone call - traded from my longtime team of over 10 years to not just any team...to my childhood rivals, the Chicago Rebels.

I was completely and utterly screwed, right? Wrong. The trade was the least of my concerns. I met a girl, Natalie. She was perfect, but I swore I would never get involved with anyone during the season. It was too complicated. But can you believe I had zero restraint when it came to this girl? I couldn't get her out of my head, and the more I talked to her the more I realized I needed her in my life.

So what's the problem? Why am I screwed? Because, Natalie, the girl I can't stop crushing on, yeah...she's married.... At least, that's what I was told....

King Cory

Such an amazing listen. I love this group of friends so hard!

Cory was—for the most part—a decent guy. Considerate, kind, funny, charming, and caring.

I loved seeing more of Natalie. The similarities with Jason, her kindness, her vulnerability, her sense of humour. It was all fantastic.

Together, they were electric.
Completely awkward, seriously adorable, a whole lot of spark.

Considering the circumstances, it was a bit of a "slow burn to inferno" situation. I mean, the attraction was there from the beginning, they just needed to sort some stuff before they could get there.

I got really frustrated by all the media and fan issues— it seemed a bit over the top and my heart was breaking for Cory.

It was nice to get more face time with Knox, Emery, Carson, Milly, and Dottie But, the standing ovation, once again, goes to Jason Orson because... holy mother of god, that man is so extra sometimes - I just can't handle it.

Frustrating

I love love love Corey and Natalie. But this book was so frustrating. First it took nearly one third of the book for them to admit to each other they both had feelings. I get the need to build up the story, but their internal struggles, repeating the same thing over and over in their heads for 2 hours was so annoying. Then, there was the angst that could have been solved in a minute conversation.

There just wasn't much of a plot. Nothing really should have kept them apart. It was mere communication or lack of. Annoying

save yourself some time and don't

I was so excited for this book but it unfortunately was very disappointing. The heroine was VERY INSECURE and would jump to wild conclusions all on her own. She claimed to love him and that she knew all about the world of baseball and that she was going to be there for him but yet when he was really down in the dumps and was even hospitalized where was she? Yes she was hurt and she had every right to be mad but you really expect me to believe that she couldn't spare a hospital visit or even a text to CORY asking how he was and that she hoped he would be ok? Really??? Cory isn't perfect either he's used to being the rock everyone can lean on so he has trouble asking for help and letting people help him. He shouldn't have pushed natalie. Also the way the baseball team PR handles all the BS they write about cory leaves alot to be desired. There were several times in the last hour or so of this book when I wanted to chuck my phone against something and was close to tears with frustration. I don't reccomend this book

Skip this one

Overall this book was just ridiculous. For adults, they were so immature. They stayed in the same hotel room for a week and told their friends how they felt - not each other. Then when they finally get together it’s a manufactured reason that they split up for 8 months. Again, adults could have overcome the “adversity”. Then there’s the constant use of the F word. Why? Surely there’s another adjective the author could use.
After 4 books in the baseball series, the author has stuck to the formula of meet, pretend not to like, get together, adversity, long periods of time apart and reunite. So, I don’t feel the need to purchase anymore from this author.
As far as the narration goes, I cringed every time the female said “Natalie”. I may have disliked the female character a little less if not for this narrator. The male narrator did a good job. Just wish he’d had better material to read, but this is just one person’s opinion.

Definitely a slow 🔥

What a thrill to escape with a book with such a great storyline. I thoroughly enjoyed the range of emotion and strong characters. Nothing like a REAL slow burn.

The Trade

Great story. The male narrator was great, but I have to say I was disappointed in the female narrator. Her inflections when she ended a sentence was nasally and whiny. The story was too good not to push through.

Coryyyyyyy..... whyyyy

I read the reviews before listening and I was hesitant, but I had listened to the three books prior and fell in love with the characters. Especially Jason! I really enjoyed Cory's character during his sister's book, he was devoted to Milly and such a good person caring for everyone around him. So it was hard to like him in this book. It was a slow start to the book, hard to get into at times. He was so hot and cold even awkward at times with Natalie. However, once the characters finally clicked together, it was easy to see why they were great together. My biggest issue with the story line was the time apart and how he made no effort for her at all. I know he had a lot of his plate and made mistakes but no effort to fix what he knew was wrong from the second she left was disappointing. It really did feel like he thought she would be waiting around forever, if we decided he wanted her back. With her past history, it was hard to listen to her constantly checking in on him and showing compassion for him when he showed no outward emotion towards anyone about her. Also, after that time frame to show up and offer a second chance.... I get they were both still "in love" with each other but I cannot imagine a level headed woman accepting someone back so fast without a second glance. Gluten for punishment. So way to go, Cory. The amazing man I thought you were was not the man you ended up being in the long run.

Why are you whining?????

Why do most female narrators have to sound like spoiled brat debutantes. I have only found three ladies that don’t make me want to jab a pen in my ear. Connor seriously could have narrated the entire book on his own. The story was good but I found myself fast forwarding through Kelsey’s chapters.

Frustrating

The fact that these 2 main characters are adults but can’t admit they like each other….for like what feels like most of the book, is frustrating. The same stuff/story line continues to be said over and over…so frustrating. This is not my favorite book. Doesn’t compare to the stories of the other baseball boys in this group.
