Publisher's Summary

A stunning thriller from the bestselling author of Scrublands and Treasure & Dirt.

A man runs for his life in a forest.

A woman plans sabotage.

A body is unearthed.

Newly-minted homicide detective Nell Buchanan returns to her home town, annoyed at being assigned a decades-old murder—a "file and forget".

But this is no ordinary cold case, as the discovery of more bodies triggers a chain of escalating events in the present day. As Nell starts to join the pieces together, she begins to question how well she truly knows those closest to her. Could her own family be implicated in the crimes?

The nearer Nell comes to uncovering the secrets of the past, the more dangerous the present becomes for her, as she battles shadowy assailants and sinister forces. Can she survive this harrowing investigation and what price will she have to pay for the truth?

Gripping and atmospheric, The Tilt is a stunning multi-layered novel by the acclaimed and award-winning author of the international bestsellers Scrublands, Silver, Trust and Treasure & Dirt.

I’m sure it’s a great read but

…I can’t listen to the narrator. He speaks in dot points and it ruins the whole flow of the story. I’ve even tried listening at 1x1 speed but it doesn't help.

Amazing!

I came across Chris Hammer via Audible editors weekly pick, I now race to download every now release. The narrator Dorje adds even more excitement to every chapter. Can not recommend enough.

Interesting story, annoying narration.

The story was good so I kept listening but the constant inflections and pausing of the reader really put me off. It didn’t flow.

I wish this had a more appropriate narrator

The book was probably better than I experienced but was really let down by a narrator who gave it no nuance and failed to get “into character” for the majority of the book’s characters. I found this detracted from the books complexity.

Narrated like the trailer for an action movie.

The story was enjoyable enough but the narration is terrible.
Every single *sentence*, even every 4th or 5th *word* is over emphasized so it sounds like the *voiceover* in the trailer for a blockbuster *action film*. (See what I mean?)
The intonation is unbelievably repetitive which is distracting and also removes meaning from the words being read. If it were his first try I might understand but they keep letting him narrated Chris Hammer’s books and I cannot understand why!?

A well-read complex story

The frailty and complexity of familial relationships are explored, with surprising twists for the main character and the reader. The underlying environmental concerns are succinctly conveyed in a crime fiction novel that will keep you guessing til the end.

Hammer hones New Material

Sufficiently intriguing story of country life in beautiful, harsh Australia. Valuable foray into WWII life.

When the pieces of the puzzle all come together!

Hammers best book yet! Massive Hammer fan and really enjoyed how this book has the multiple timelines going to keep you guessing. Very clever! It’s like putting together a satisfying jigsaw puzzle!
Narrator Dorje has gotten a lot better too which makes it all the more enjoyable. 5 stars all round!

Complex story, pay attention

Really enjoyed the complexity of this story - keeping track of all the family characters was a challenge for me, but loved it.

Same book as “Dead Man’s Creek”

Apparently different title for different territories, I realised I was listening to a story I’d heard previously. Whichever title you buy, it is excellent, just don’t buy both as I did! Disappointed now that I have no new Chris Hammer to listen to…
