Publisher's Summary

Sara Michaels is the daughter of a prominent senator who has just announced his candidacy for President of the United States - the same senator who has been receiving death threats against his family.

Sara Michaels is also the owner of a self-help clinic and is hell-bent - despite the FBI's warnings - on leading a group of 10 women on a two-week sojourn through the Rocky Mountains.

In an effort to protect Sara, the FBI recruits homicide detective Jaime Hutchinson to infiltrate the group and secretly provide the protection they are so certain Sara will need. After some clever maneuvering, Jaime finds herself welcomed by the 10 conservative women - who soon begin playing matchmaker with Sara and Jaime.

But then Jaime is reminded of the reason that she has joined this group of women when she's forced to lead them out of the mountains and away from a sniper's bullets. Will Sara finally figure out who is behind the death threats? And will Jaime realize the truth - and be able to save Sara before it's too late?

Read/Listen to The Killing Room first

There are spoilers to the book The Killing Room in this book. Read/listen to that book first.

disappointing

Shoot me, but I'm going to be honest here. I would not have finished this, except for the fact that Abby Craden was narrating. And I love Gerri Hill so wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. But unfortunately this just did not cut it for me.
I felt that the characters were one dimensional and I have met them in many Hill books before. Except normally the author gives them nuance and depth, which makes them interesting and relateable. The plot was contrived and simplistic, unlike Ms Hill's other mysteries I've read. This really felt like a finger exercise. I pay a lot for credits, due to a poor Rand Dollar exchange rate. Hence my inability to be forgiving. I wish I had bought Weeping Walls instead!
OK so after i wrote this, i realised the book was released in 2007. So that may explain it. I'll be more careful in future.

Suspense with romance who can ask for more?

It was a nice surprise to find that this is connected a little to the book I listened to before The Killing Room. The story takes place in the same area, one of the main characters in the Killing room appears in this book at some point, so it is nice to know she is OK as well.
The book kept me on the edge of my seat so to speak. Loved the characters and the plot, oh my, it was fabulous.
And last but not least Abby Craden, did I say that she has this voice that does it for me? Well she does...

Loved this book and audio! Can’t believe I didn’t read this book sooner. Thank goodness for audible! Or I wouldn’t have known about this book. Bought the kindle and audio! Gerri always tells a great story and Abbey’s narration hits it out the park every time ❤️

Quick fun read

I really enjoyed this book. Was it a little predictable? Sure. But it was action packed, had some romance, believable characters, and an interesting ending.

engaging

I don't like political anything especially not in my favorite escapism... reading. But, the due to the pairing of one of my favorite authors and narrator, I gave it ago.

what a ride, it was jarring, complicated, not complicated, fear grippin-- especially towards the end the anxiety was killing me, emotional roller coaster.

I'd definitely recommend.

Hill is Brilliant, The book a Gem, A Must read!

The is one about a police detective and a psychologist who both happen to be women who fall deeply in love with each other. It is a wonderful tell of suspense, as you are never sure who the killer is or why they have targeted the woman, It is a great action story, Yet also a wonderful soft love story, Moving slowly through love but fast through the action,

Protecting the Senators Daughter

Sara Michael’s father was running for President and the FBI said there were death threats but she wanted nothing to do with them. She ran a very successful self help business for women and was preparing for a two week hike as their final confidence building experience. Homicide Detective Jamie Hutchinson is recruited by the FBI to work her way into the group and protect Sara. But there’s a lot of lies being told. Can Jamie protect Sara and not lose her heart? Great performance and story. Recommend anything by this author.

You’ll want to listen in one sitting

Typically excellent quality from Gerri Hill and from Abby Craden. These two go so well together. Think Kurt and Courtney, or Laverne and Shirley. Or Lenny and Squiggy.
