Everyone in the kingdom talked about the King-in-waiting, Roland's elder son, Peter. And one man thought and planned and brooded on something else: how to make sure that Roland's younger son, Thomas, should be crowned King instead. The King is dead, murdered by an unusual poison. Story
Wentworth, Ohio: a small, friendly town where the Carver children bicker over sweets in the E-Z shop and writer Johnny Marinville is the only resident who minds his own business. On Poplar Street, apart from the impending storm, it's just a normal summer's day - with Frisbees flying, lawn mowers humming and barbeques grilling. As the paperboy makes his round, he is unaware of the chrome-red van idling up the hill....

The name on the covers was Bachman. But the imagination could only belong to one man: Stephen King. 'Thinner' - the old gypsy man barely whispers the word. Billy feels the touch of a withered hand on his cheek. Billy Halleck, prosperous if overweight citizen, happily married, shuddered then turned angrily away. The old woman's death had been none of his fault. The courts had cleared him. She'd just stumbled in front of his car.

There was a new shop in town. Run by a stranger. Needful Things, the sign said. The oddest name. A name that caused some gossip and speculation among the good folks of Castle Rock, Maine, while they waited for opening day. Eleven-year-old Brian Rusk was the first customer and he got just what he wanted, a very rare 1956 Sandy Koufax baseball card. Signed. Cyndi Rose Martin was next. A Lalique vase. A perfect match for her living room decor. Something for everyone.

Suspenseful, frightening, and sometimes howlingly funny, a story of invasion and battle, survival and heroism. It is a story of how men remember ... and how they love. In Derry, Maine, four young boys once stood together and did a brave thing. Something that changed them in ways they hardly understand. A quarter of a century later, the boys are men who have gone their separate ways. Though they still get together once a year, to go hunting in the north woods of Maine.

Performance drove me mad
This was one of my favourite childhood books that I chose to revisit. It’s still a wonderful tale and I enjoyed it. I found the narrator’s voice incredible irritating, specifically the way he dragged out the ending of words, particularly the last word of every sentence, and made them sound airy eg. “Jaaaaackeeeeee.” I stopped and started a few times because I couldn’t stand it, and it took me the better half of ten hours to stop being irritated by it. I don’t think I would listen to another audio book where this technique is adopted.

King at his best
If you could sum up The Talisman in three words, what would they be?
Magical, sweet and dark
Who was your favorite character and why?
Wolf was my favorite character. His innocence and loyalty made me want to jump into the book and cuddle him.
Have you listened to any of Frank Muller’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I've listened to a couple of his other audio books. I enjoy the way he presents a certain genre of story but if you are not use to his style, and with a long audio book, I can understand why some people find it difficult to listen to him for extended periods.
Who was the most memorable character of The Talisman and why?
Again, Wolf. His innocence was just so sweet and his genuine affection/love for Jack was beautiful. He was dragged into a world not his own by Jack, suffered from it, but was never resentful and stayed true to his
Any additional comments?
I loved the two world/twinner/time-travel concept - its Ying and Yang. The story shows the good and evil of humans and how destructive we can be.... BUT ... it also shows how a human boy can reverse that evil in the name of love.

The Talisman
This is the second book I have listened to on my Iphone and loved it. Being new to audible I found it slightly bizzare being read to at my age ( 27 plus GST)however I have loved both books and narrators. Frank has a deep voice and the further into the book you get the more engrossed you get :) This was a great book and Frank did it justice, especially playing Wolf. I am now about to download The Black House and am glad Frank is narrating again as this will blend very well. Job well done mate :)

Listen to the sample first!!
I got so annoyed by the narrator's voice that I couldn't bring myself to listen pass the first 5 minutes. So I cannot comment on the book itself. I'm off to Borders to purchase a hardcopy so I can actually finish this novel. Listen to the sample before committing yourself to nearly 30 hours of the same annoying voice. The narrator places a breathy emphasis on the last word of nearly every sentence!! It distracts from the actual storyline!

Riveting Nightmare Trip
This really fast paced journey in and out of parallel worlds traces the journey of a boy anxious to save his mother from death. His terrifying experiences throughout pile up one on the other until you are left breathless. With the usual very nasty characters found in the Authors offerings plus Werewolves', Monsters and exceptionally clever trees to keep young Mr. Sawyer on his toes I began to think he is 'Superboy'. I challenge even the most unimaginative amongst us not to be able to picture all that is described in stark and vivid detail. A very good reading which made for a most exciting listen.

Poor choice of narrator
I listened to the first few minutes and also read the reviews before purchasing, normally I like to think that all is not lost but this is BAD the narrator is awful not only does he whisper the last word of practically every sentence but his voice is monotonous. Dreadfully appalling I am a Steven King fan but I can't get into the story because the narrators voice is hilarious. I find myself giggling inappropriately and loosing the thread of the story - not a good thing. So here I am an hour into this novel and I'm sorry to say whoever employed Frank Muller needs to read the reviews I rate it a miss totally through choice of narrator. I will however continue listening because I am a Steven King fan. My advise to Frank Muller 'don't give up your day job'.

Well, that’s a first!
I don’t think I’ve ever been tempted to take my iPhone or iPad and hit them with a lumphammer in sheer voluminous anger... until now.
Let me just explain, I like to buy my Audibles of my favourite , long gone novels. Rather than read them again in book form ( time I reserve solely for new books) I get to relive the stories in quiet moments during the day or drifting off to sleep....safe in the knowledge it won’t matter if I’ve missed a little this time round as I drop off.
My expectations of audible aren’t high...all I ask is that the narrator do the job clearly and as best they can.
This one, did not!
The narrator should have his vocal chords surgically removed as an affront to literature.
With his monotone sneery Deep South drawl, delivered at breakneck speed , like some 20 cents worth wise guy extra from a Jimmy Cagney tribute troupe ... this blathering idiot managed to offend my ears so badly, in such a brief span, I thought I’d smash my phone just to shut out his ridiculous whine.
Fabulous book, fabulous tale.... ruined in less than the first chapter by some scumbag Yankee Doodle idiot.
