Diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), Jeff Sutherland lost his abilities to walk and speak within two years and, confined to a wheelchair, was forced to retire from his life's work as a physician at 43. Not long after, he was locked in his own inanimate body, unable to eat, drink, or breathe without assistance. His meals were delivered through a feeding tube, and a ventilator controlled his lungs through an opening in his throat. The only parts of his body he was able to move voluntarily were his eyes.

Story
What happens when we literally walk out our Christian life? We discover the joy of traveling at the speed of our soul. We often act as if faith is only about the mind. But what about our bodies? What does our physical being have to do with our spiritual life? When the Bible exhorts us to walk in the light, or walk by faith, or walk in truth, it means these things literally as much as figuratively. The Christian faith always involves walking out, as again and again we find the holy in the ordinary.

Just what I needed to read
I have a brain tumor myself and will soon have surgery. This book took away my terror, even as part of Jodi's story is terrifying her resolve and her brush with death made me see life differently.
My tumor is not located in an inoperable place, my story will not be this bad, I can do this now.
one doesn't have to also have a brain tumor to enjoy this book, hearing Jodi tell her own story is emotional and powerful.

Inspirational, Motivational, Incredible
Where does The Sun Still Shines rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I generally listen to fiction. This is a break back to reality for me. I am blessed to be a friend of the author and had already heard many of her experiences. It was eye opening to me to listen to the finer details of these incredible events.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Sun Still Shines?
I loved all the stories of compassion from so many different people in Jodi's life. The story that resonated with me was the two sister CNAs that cared for and bathed Jodi in one of her darker moments. I loved and felt the compassion and care that these two individuals displayed.
What does Jodi Orgill Brown bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Hearing it in her own words was incredible. I know Jodi and her husband and kids. She perfectly captures their expressions and tones of voice.

Beautifully told, inspiring story
I loved this heartfelt, vulnerable telling of Jodi’s harrowing journey through her battle with a brain tumor. My sister went through a similar experience with brain surgery, although her “tumor” ended up not being a tumor at all, but a reaction to the flu shot she had been given 18 days earlier. She nearly died as well. I appreciated hearing the story from Jodi’s perspective. I am inspired to try a little harder to endure my own challenges with more patience and a better attitude.
