Publisher's Summary

In a candid and witty memoir, Jodi recounts how her life was transformed when, as a 33-year-old wife and mother, she was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Unwilling to accept her new fate, Jodi's family searches for a doctor who will join their fight against the odds. But when the surgery that could save her life thrusts her into battle with a devastating spinal fluid leak and facial paralysis, even her own children fear her new appearance and physical failings. Jodi perseveres, even with an injured body and spirit. Interweaving the inspiring, provoking, and sometimes disturbing, Jodi reveals the hells and highs of her journey as she fights for hope and purpose - and life.

This is one of the best audiobooks I have listened to so far.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the intimate details Jodi incorporated into the story to help us live this experience with her. It felt like I was laying in the bed with her, experiencing everything!

What does Jodi Orgill Brown bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Listing to Jodi read this book herself, brings us that much closer to her experience! Hearing Jodi's voice makes us hear the story as she wants it to be told.

Any additional comments?

It is amazing that Jodi is able to recall so much about her experience and document it so well. It is also amazing that she is able to take this experience and turn it into such strength. I can only wish to have this much strength. She is such an inspiration!

Just what I needed to read

I have a brain tumor myself and will soon have surgery. This book took away my terror, even as part of Jodi's story is terrifying her resolve and her brush with death made me see life differently.
My tumor is not located in an inoperable place, my story will not be this bad, I can do this now.

one doesn't have to also have a brain tumor to enjoy this book, hearing Jodi tell her own story is emotional and powerful.

Full of courage & positivity

Enjoyed this uplifting survival book throughly... omg what a journey ... I have my brain surgery in a week, I have to admit listening to this terrified me and I almost stoped .. but I am so glad I persevered... the courage and grace with which Jodi handled her challenges Is absolutely mind boggling and has bolstered my courage to handle whatever may be the aftermath of my surgery . I loved that she read it herself as the authenticity of the emotions and events made it that much more powerful. I thank Jodi for writing & narrating this wonderful book.

Inspirational, Motivational, Incredible

Where does The Sun Still Shines rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I generally listen to fiction. This is a break back to reality for me. I am blessed to be a friend of the author and had already heard many of her experiences. It was eye opening to me to listen to the finer details of these incredible events.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Sun Still Shines?

I loved all the stories of compassion from so many different people in Jodi's life. The story that resonated with me was the two sister CNAs that cared for and bathed Jodi in one of her darker moments. I loved and felt the compassion and care that these two individuals displayed.

What does Jodi Orgill Brown bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Hearing it in her own words was incredible. I know Jodi and her husband and kids. She perfectly captures their expressions and tones of voice.

Beautifully told, inspiring story

I loved this heartfelt, vulnerable telling of Jodi’s harrowing journey through her battle with a brain tumor. My sister went through a similar experience with brain surgery, although her “tumor” ended up not being a tumor at all, but a reaction to the flu shot she had been given 18 days earlier. She nearly died as well. I appreciated hearing the story from Jodi’s perspective. I am inspired to try a little harder to endure my own challenges with more patience and a better attitude.
