why didn't jeff harding narrate this?

nothing worse listening to a series and the author changes narrator's It's not the same, can't get into the story as you have pictures in your head of the characters from the previous books, I have no doubt I would enjoy the book if jeff harding narrated it.

Really...more melodrama...is that really the plot

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, firstly I haven't read the book only listened to the audio book so maybe the reader spoiled Jeffery Deaver's work (just kidding), hmm accept one of the biggest issues i have with this audio book is the ridiculous plot line, if this was an interesting book id give a run down of the plot but it isn't, the central plot line is just silly and I could not listen to the audio book after I purchased it. I listened to "The Bone Collector" and it was really quite good, then I listened to the "Coffin Dancer", it was not so good, plot was starting to get a little bit silly and unrealistic, but not fully unhinged. The reader was still firmly targeting melodrama in his reading of Coffin Dancer the book but it was listenable. The Stone Monkey is the next step in awful moving on and improving in the area of awful, from the previous two novels, Bone Collector: some melodrama in the language some bullshit in the plot, but good, Coffin Dancer: extra melodrama in the language and large increase in bullshit in the plot, now Monkey Stone, if I could Id get money back i WOULD. Don't do it , don't buy the paper back and don't buy the hard copy and definitely don't buy the audio-book, hey its just my opinion, I didn't enjoy it I wouldn't go back.

Story great, but I wasn't a fan of the reader.

story great, but got lost with the reader, compared to the other books read by Jeff harding. I found myself having to listen to chapters over.

Review Stone Monkey By J. Deaver

Some difficult understandings due to Chinese dialects.
But many twists and turns that make Deaver books a joy to read

Probably a great story, but...

Listening to the first 4 chapters I found it difficult to differentiate between the voices of all the character...they all melded into one unfortunately. So I shall now return it and find another Jeffery Deaver by a different narrator entirely. Jeff Harding is great reading the first two.

Can't get enough of Lincoln Rhyme

Would you listen to The Stone Monkey again? Why?

Another gripping yarn from a master of suspence. Thoroughly enjoyed this and look forward to the next Lincoln Rhyme - a great character, brilliantly portrayed.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lincoln Rhyme

Which scene did you most enjoy?

When the "doctor" is finally unmasked

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes

Any additional comments?

Good story

I had been disappointed in the last JD novel I read, this was better - but not up to the standard of his earlier novels which were really tense.
Lincoln Rhyme seems to be less sure of himself, and I rather liked his arrogance fuelled by knowledge that he was right. However, In this novel he seemed a bit gumpy and much ruder to his nurse, which I wasn't keen on.
Overall quite a good read though

Great story however audio story version has issues

The story itself is great and just as expected from a good writer. However this version has taken each of the “profile” pages, which list out all the the evidence Rhyme finds and kept them in the audio so there is a great deal of repetition that spoilt the flow and was really not needed!!! Boring. The narrator was ok but not as good as other narrators of Jeffery Deavers books. Not much difference with some of the characters.

Brilliant Deaver again

What made the experience of listening to The Stone Monkey the most enjoyable?

Having been to New York and visited China town I found this book gripping and fast moving. This book gave an insight into the world of the illegal immigrant who had left communist China to make a new start in the good country.the philosophy of the Chinese way of life was thought provoking. How Deaver comes up with such good books that keep you gripped from beginning to the end I don't know

Who was your favorite character and why?

Tom Lincoln Rhymms long suffering carer and the Chinese detective who came over from china to look for the ghost

Have you listened to any of Adam Sims’s other performances? How does this one compare?

First Adam Sims narrations I have listened to and I found him to be a masterful story teller

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The Chinese detective talking philosophically to Lincoln Rhymme was very intense.

Any additional comments?

Buy it you won't be disappointed.
