Publisher's Summary

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Good Sister and The Mother-in-Law with new novel Darling Girls out now.

Gabe is alone at the cliff's edge. His arms are outstretched, palms facing the empty air.

He said she jumped. He wouldn't lie.

Before the woman went over the cliff, Pippa and Gabe were happy. They had the kind of marriage that everyone envies, as well as two sweet young daughters, a supportive family, and a picturesque cliff-side home - which would have been idyllic had the tall beachside cliffs not become so popular among those wishing to end their lives.

Gabe has become somewhat of a local hero since they moved to the cliff house, talking seven people down from stepping off the edge. But when Gabe fails to save the eighth, a sordid web of secrets begins to unravel, pushing bonds of loyalty and love to the brink.

What wouldn't you do for your soulmate?

A bit 2D

So much gets revealed in the past section that didn't really have the foreshadowing or tie in throughout. meh. easy listen, didn't grab me like her other books

Great read

I don’t get the negative reviews, which almost prevented me from buying this book. I couldn’t put it down. Great writing. Excellent performance.

Boring and waste of time

Would have left this as a DNF but didn’t want to waste an audible credit. Loved Darling Girls so decided to give this a go and really felt like I wasted my time and was bored.

The story was so far fetched and didn’t make sense, which is all I can say without giving away spoilers. The kids were annoying and didn’t even sound realistic with what they said. The dialogue was trying to make the kids sound relevant to the story. The topics of mental illness also didn’t feel like it was researched enough.

Cheesy

Very cheesy storyline and the voices of the children were super cringey. Wouldn't recommend this one.

Good premise, good execution

A well written mystery with a pretty novel premise. At first I was slightly unnerved at the extremely limited, first person, present-tense narration. It is written as though it's almost a direct transcription or diary of the narrator's thoughts, because she doesn't offer any exposition to elaborate on her offhanded comments (in a way you would expect a narrator to address a reader who is unfamiliar with the backstory). However I now realise it was a clever way of withholding exposition, while dropping subtle hints which are nothing more than a particular phrasing of the narrator's thoughts, and then, hours later, revealing a crucial part of the backstory that makes you go 'ohhhh.... THAT'S what that odd phrasing was hinting at." At the time you think nothing of it, but it produces a niggling feeling that you're missing something important, and you don't realise until that something is revealed. For me, this slow burn and slow delivery of the backstory was what got me hooked and I think it was very well executed.
