About this listen

Starting a new life in Snowdonia was always DI Ruth Hunter's dream. Until a twisted killer turned it into her worst nightmare.

Detective Inspector Ruth Hunter lives with the pain of her partner’s mysterious and unsolved disappearance. About to hit 50, the veteran police officer trades in the crime-ridden streets of London for a more peaceful life in rural North Wales. But Ruth has barely settled into her new position in North Wales Police, when the body of a brutally murdered woman is discovered...with strange symbols carved into her skin. Teaming up with an obstinate deputy, Ruth struggles to eliminate anyone from a long line of suspects. When another slain victim is discovered with the same cryptic markings, she’s forced to re-think the investigation.

Has Ruth got what it takes to solve the case before the murderer attacks again?

The Snowdonia Killings is the first book in the DI Ruth Hunter Crime Thriller series and set against the majestic backdrop of Snowdonia, a timeless land of Arthurian legend, folklore, and myth. If you like dark police procedurals, psychologically complex characters, and shocking twists, then you’ll love Simon McCleave’s pulse-pounding debut novel.

This was a great story, with likeable, down to earth characters and it is well read. A good all round whodunnit

Great Story

I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy this book as it is presented very differently to my other reads. As the storyline progressed and we we introduced to the team, I was hooked.
Looking forward to the next book.

Storyline pulled me in.

Struggled with the censorship. Why would the book not be read as written. Detracted from the story.

Why bleep swearing???

This was one the best stories I enjoyed. had plenty to keep you interested in from start to finish. Normally Can work out who is the perpetrator is was a surprise at the end. Good narration.

One of the best.

You could describe this as a tale of twists and turns, or like me, you could find a plot that's absolutely lost and wanders around North Wales pointlessly, whilst trying to act as a Welsh history and folklore guide, and at the same time transcribing an ordinance survey map.

I love North Wales, and I love murder mystery/detective stories, but this has so many pointless characters and relationships that don't add to the plot or build any kind of background, the whole thing feels as though it's written for tv rather than for reading.

The narration was frustrating, it sounded as though words have been edited in later, I'm assuming they were poorly pronounced in an earlier version, and replaced later on, but the join is jarring,. particularly in a story that's so hard to keep listening to as it is!

Honeslty, if it wasnt for the fact that I was reading this for a bookclub with a family member I care about I'd not have even got to the end of the first chapter, the best thing about the whole experience will be the bookclub where I can truly let rip about just how much I disliked this book.

Terrible tale only topped by terrible narrating
