Publisher's Summary

Soon after Gwenda moved into her new home, odd things started to happen. Despite her best efforts to modernise the house, she only succeeded in dredging up its past. Worse, she felt an irrational sense of terror every time she climbed the stairs.

In fear, Gwenda turned to Miss Marple to exorcise her ghosts. Between them, they have to solve a "perfect" crime committed many years before.

good book, bad format

the chapters in this audible book are very long and do not match the spoken words (a few chapters spoken inside each audible chapter), which is bothersome! otherwise very enjoyable story

good story, bad kiwi accent

I love all Agatha Christie tales and the narration was fine except for the voice of the kiwi Gwenda - the accent was awful 😔

Amazing 😍

My first time with audiobook over a book and it was amazing. Thrill of switching theories of Murder with each perfectly narrated chapters by Stephanie Cole is same as closing a book and thinking ' who can it be' 🙂

Great story, well narrated

Miss Marple is her adorable self, always expecting the worst of everyone and always right. The narrator laid the Kiwi accent on a little thick but the story was so gripping that eventually I didn’t even notice. It’s a clever murder mystery with enough foreshadowing and clues that you can work out who the murderer is before the big reveal, while not so obvious that it’s unsatisfying.

exceptional reading abilities - just perfect

such talent of doing voices and make the characters alive - the perfect foil for Agatha Christie's beautiful mystery and the inimitable Miss Jane Marple!

Miss M does a little weeding in the garden

Stephanie Cole has given a very good performance in this little gem from Christie.

Without doing a second reading, I think most of the clues are out there for us to wonder 'Who done it?' and maybe solve this mystery.

While Miss M still has her knitting, she engages in a little work in the garden in this story.

For me while the storms rage outside and the creek swells with water to flood the valley further down, and the power lines are down I have been able to curl up on the couch and listen to this great little story. Maybe this is why some people call such mysteries,'cozies'.

Perhaps not perfect, this was good and is the best Miss M story I have heard on Audible.

Miss Marple beckons

I hope to never meet Miss Marple as I am sure of certain death within the hour. However Agatha Christie has once again let Jane Marple solve another mystery with the style and panache that is all her own. Whilst Miss M is not the main character in this story, her hints from the background made this a good read. Stephanie Cole was an excellent narrator and her clear characters were well defined and in some cases most amusing. The pace was perfect, no notable changes in either the audio quality or the readers stamina. Highly recommended.

Favourite Marple

I was always a Joan Hickson fan, but Stephanie Cole is excellent. This is my favourite Marple story. Sinister, but gripping. Enjoy.

Just the thing for a murky afternoon.

What makes this so satisfying is Stephanie Cole's reading. There is the aura of County (UK listeners will understand) about her similar to Joan Hickson in the old BBC dramatisations. You need that, just as Philip Marlowe needs snarky Californian, or Miss Marple doesn't work.

Good Agatha Christie

I like Stephanie Cole but I did not like the accents in this narration I afraid . The story however is classical Agatha Christie and very enjoyable

Very different style

One of my favourite stories of Miss Marple and well read by Stephanie Cole, while a huge fan of Joan Hickson Stephanie is another favourite actress which is why I find this so enjoyable.
