Story
It all begins on a Monday, when four people board an elevator in a Manhattan office tower. Each presses a button for their floor, but the elevator proceeds, nonstop, to the top. Once there, it stops for a few seconds, and then plummets. Right to the bottom of the shaft. It appears to be a horrific, random tragedy. But then, on Tuesday, it happens again, in a different skyscraper. And when Wednesday brings yet another high-rise catastrophe, one of the most vertical cities in the world - and the nation’s capital of media, finance and entertainment - is plunged into chaos.

Story
What will become of our self-destructed planet? The answer shatters all expectations in this subversive speculation from the Hugo Award - winning author of the Broken Earth trilogy. An explorer returns to gather information from a climate-ravaged Earth that his ancestors, and others among the planet’s finest, fled centuries ago. The mission comes with a warning: A graveyard world awaits him. But so do those left behind - hopeless and unbeautiful wastes of humanity who should have died out ages ago.

The reading is flat, dull, and awful
The story may be okay, but I'm having a hard time getting past the terrible reading. It's flat, dull, and has an oddly robotic cadence. I first thought it was being read by the default accessibility reader on my phone because it was so strangely robotic. There's no feeling, no warmth. The reader feels completely disengaged from the story. Since I got this through Kindle Unlimited, I'll try reading the book on my Kindle and forego the audio. I see they used the same reader or all of the Dark Corners Collection. I'll see if those are any better, but I'm not feeling very hopeful right now.

Just OK
Helped pass an hour and half away on road trip. Nothing new in ghost storytelling. Narrator should not try to do male voices. Very distracting.

Reader makes it unbearable.
It's difficult to rate the story itself since the person reading was so bad that I stopped a third of the way in. Besides resembling a text-to-speech program, her reading of male parts was equally ridiculous and frustrating. She tried so hard to lower her voice that her delivery of the lines didn't the way anyone would say them. Rather it just sounded like she was struggling to get the words out. On top of that, it simply sounded absurd. If the story interests you try reading it instead.

OKAY.
This audiobook was okay. Kind of slow moving and a little confusing until it all kind of comes together in the end with the mild shock. Nothing spectacular about it at all.

Horrible
I usually don't write reviews, but I couldn't just let this one slide by without warning others.
Do you ever find yourself wishing you could listen to the narration of a 6th-grader's essay that has been stretched to meet a word-count requirement mixed with bad 50 Shades of Grey fanfiction involving the author's original characters? Well if you answered yes - hot dog, this is a story for you.
The writing was boring and predictable and filled with tired, overused tropes. The narrator's terrible "manly" voice kept me constantly distracted and wondering why they couldn't have just paid a homeless guy $10 to read the other half of the dialog. The plot "twist" at the end was obvious within a few minutes. It might have been an amusing 15-20 minute long story.. but for the length of a feature film this is ridiculous.

Way too long!
The narrator was horrible resulting in several attempts to finish the entire book. The ending was somewhat predictable.
