Couldn’t stop listening
So I have at least an hour commute one way or the other and I mainly listen to my books. Once they get to the last few chapters and everything is unfolding I’ll read them after work to finish. NOT. THIS. ONE. I literally had this one going non-stop as much as I could. If this was a book-book it would have been a page turner and its readers would have been up until the wee hours just to figure out what happened. Full stars across the board for me and as an audio book listener.

Story peters out
I have listened to some absolutely fantastic psychological thrillers by K.L. Slater, but this was not one of them. It started out great, and one can't help feel despair for kids who one is almost sure are innocent (especially the one who confesses), and the one's mother, to whom all kinds of awful things happen in a very short time. But then, suddenly, all is resolved. Just like that. Easy peasy. From 100 to 0 in the space of a few minutes of listening. No great detective work involved in getting the real culprit. No new evidence. No search for what really happened. Just suddenly resolved in the space, basically, of one phone call. Could have been a great book except for the ending. I felt let down. It felt as if there should have been at least another 2 or 3 hours of suspense and storytelling before the "great" reveal!

great narration and a fairly good story....
(this review contains no spoilers) two ten year old girls end up deciding to go and scare an old lady with dementia and doing so puts in a series of events that the two mothers of the children need to sort out, it turns out that the family hold a very dark secret... the book has a plot within a plot what is very good and is easy to follow even when it jumps back in time. I found parts of it very predictable though not the ending but parts in the middle where I knew the guesses would be wrong, the narration is very good and is easy to follow even though there are many characters. it has a very good ending that I was personally unable to guess.

Oh dear.....
What a load of toot. A family which contains all the fictional stereotypes you could think of plus a cast of characters that’s so small the bad eggs are smelly from early on. A big family secret is revealed at the most unlikely of moments which everyone knows bar the most savvy character. Poor Bessies murder is never really gone into either.... The only saving grace is the narrator who does a sterling job with the tripe she has been given.
