Publisher's Summary

From the national best-selling author - the new novel set in the "darkly fascinating world" (SF Site) of the Black Jewels.

Dena Nehele is a land decimated by its past. Once it was ruled by corrupt Queens who were wiped out when the land was cleansed of tainted Blood. Now, only 100 Warlord Princes stand - without a leader and without hope.

Theran Grayhaven is the last of his line, desperate to find the key that reveals a treasure great enough to restore Dena Nehele. But first he needs to find a Queen who remembers the Blood's code of honor and lives by the Old Ways. The woman chosen to rule Dena Nehele, Lady Cassidy, is not beautiful and believes she is not strong. But she may be the only one able to convince bitter men to serve once again.

My kind of trash

Familiar story for me. The narrators accent for Jaenelle was awful and jarring. otherwise good. This is one of my favourite books in the Black Jewels trilogy. It's just a shame the follow up shaladors lady isn't available

Same great story, but character voices off

Why is Jaenelle Celtic? The voices should stay consistent throughout the series. I love Sharian's Daemon, Lucivar and Saetan.

Great book

The storyline is fabulous as with all of the books by Anne Bishop. What is disappointing is that Janelle’s accent was that Morgan. She has a Scottish accent which was hard for me as this is a first listen of this book. I have probably listened to dark jewel trilogy 10+ times. The narrator did a good job otherwise.

Still important to story line

While the narrator still makes me mad with his new accent for Jaenelle, you still need this story to get the details of the Diablo family. It’s a small stepping stone in the family’s story but still reveals a lot about them.

I love these books and the narrators... usually

These books are challenging with all of the diverse chars and personalities. I was unfortunately extremely distracted with the awful Irish accent used for Janelle’s dialogue. Otherwise well done. The choices in Shalador’s lady were much more on point.

love this book!

I love the mix of story with characters we already love and some new characters.

P.S. Read the Invisible Ring before you read the Shadow Queen.

wonderful book but I'm so annoyed!

This book is incredible. I loved the side story story after seeing how the darker jeweled blood lived in the other books. I Love Cassidy and Grey and Ranon. Vae too!
However, I am very annoyed with the narrator. I bought all of the other books and I can't understand how Janelle suddenly has the Schelt accent!!! For the first 3 books she has a slight accent but nothing like this. This whole book she sounds like Morghan. It irritated me so badly that I had to fast forward all of her parts which meant missing Daemon. I just don't get how the same narrator can just completely change from one book to the next.

Accent

Again Jaenelle had an accent that she didn't have in the original trilage. I don't care for it. It seems to ditract from the cariture.

The accent for Janelle was changed, bad

In the past books the narrator had used an American youthful accent for Janelle but in this book of the series he changed it to an Irish accent. It was very disappointing and really took away from the character. PLEASE fix it.
