Bit if a yawn

The narrator's children's voice was uncomfortably loud and intensely irritating. The story was a one trick pony and became a big yawn. What wife knew and didn't know didn't rescue this ...still a disappointing story over egged!

All a bit silly

I liked the idea of this book and it started off well, however it sadly then deteriorated into a bit of a cliche. Tension for the sake of tension, inconsistency in the storyline and a wholly predictable twist. Female narration was ok, not great but ok, apart from the narrator that voiced Alexander Robertson, possibly the worst Scottish accent I have ever heard. James McNaughton was outstanding! He made Tom completely believable and frankly terrifying! However the book, in my opinion, was not great and I wouldn’t recommend

Good story but annoying narration

A couple of the narrators were fab but unfortunately the main one was very poor. Accents were awful and all the characters sounded the same.
I enjoyed the story and would definitely recommend the book!

Good page Turner

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Kept me listening constantly, told from killer’s, wife’s and victims’ point of view, was absorbing with a twist towards the end.

Slowly burning towards the TNT barrel...

Unfortunately the justice system is often long and slow. I’m guessing that there are a few people who will listen to this book hoping for the gore, the grit and the urgency of the police chasing a serial killer. This story is told from the perspective of the serial killer’s wife and it shows how slowly the justice system really moves, especially for those who are one step removed from the action.

The devil is indeed in the detail. It would be too easy to read this novel quickly, assuming that the wife is naive, even stupid but that would be to miss the point, and the detail, entirely.

It’s still there, maybe not the gore, but the menace certainly is.

There is a twist, though I wasn’t fussed about it, I felt that it was too obvious and unnecessary though I suppose that it will appeal to those who are hungry for definitive answers.

Aside from the twist (or lack of), this was good to listen to and yes, gripping, even though it was a slow burn.

A compelling listen

Couldn’t stop listening to this once I started. Great narration. The end slightly disappointed in comparison to the rest though.

Cringe worthy

Main narrator was dreadful - over annunciated like a children’s TV presenter and sounded like she was reading it for the first time off the page. Her Scottish accent and child’s voice was particularly cringe worthy; the poor narration distracted from the story - so much so I switched off after 5 minutes and had to persuade myself to persist…. Hard to tell which was worst, the narration or the writing - labouring a sanctimonious portrayal of motherhood and a deluded wife in an irritating voice made for cringe worthy listening
