Publisher's Summary

Dear Jerk Across the Street, sorry for accidentally walking in on you and catching an eyeful of your - equipment. And hard pass on the open invitation to join you in the shower “anytime”, A-hole.

That’s the note I should’ve written. Instead I sent a pleasant and apologetic version.

Had I known Phoenix “Nix” Russo would’ve been the neighbor from hell, I’d have told him right where he could shove my words.

Nix is the big man on campus with everyone lined up at his games to make sure he knows it. Sure, he’s got piercing blue eyes, abs that don’t quit, and a smile that could set fire to a set of panties from a hundred yards away, but he’s also the biggest pain in my ass.

Dear Pink-Haired Menace, learn how to take a joke and stop being such a kill-joy...

Elle Masterson called the cops on one of my parties - again. My sweet talking usually gets me out of trouble, but this time it got me into a nice pair of silver handcuffs. Now I’m on a reputation rehab tour with a stop at a spring break community service project.

Guess who’s my new boss?

Now we’re shoulder to shoulder, sweaty, tired, and...she’s not anything like I expected. There might just be a heart under that hard-ass exterior. She’s invading my dreams and I can’t shake the feeling she’s the key to unlocking a piece of me that I’ve hidden away.

It’s only a matter of time until she finds out why I’m really here.

Maybe I can break through her walls and into her heart before that happens...one screw at a time.

The Second We Met is a stand-alone new adult romance.

Agonizing. Not worth the credit.

I liked Jason Clarke (Nix) as narrator but could not figure out if Emma Wilder (Ellie) always sounded whiny or if she was playing the role.

While I understood the plot and the general characters in the first three chapters, I hoped that the story would develop into something more than a rich jock football player hounded by an ever bearing Dad and hated yet adored by an insecure penniless neighbor who let her life be ruined by two guys who cheated on her in high school and college. Yet ironically Ellie longed for the Phoenix, the QB football senior who kept condoms in his wallet and lived in a frat house.

Unfortunately, there were no surprises. Over time she felt more and more distrust for him as he tried harder and harder to live her. They would have great sex and the next day she would be writing him off for a trivial event On and on and on.

I purchased this based on positive prior reviews, but felt it was a waste of time let alone a credit.

Good pastime

This second book of this series was ok. It was romantic and easy to listen. Not as fabulous that first book, but ok. Why? As first book ”Perfect first” had really good lead characters and deeper plot, this book’s lead characters annoyed me from time to time and plot was quite straightforward. Both readers were really good, once I got used to that they are now different characters than first book. :) Anyway I enjoyed it a lot. This was nice and easy love story to listen.

Sweet, Fun and Sexy!

This is the second book in the Fulton U Series, an amazing New Adult and College Romance. Nix and Elle's enemies-to-lovers story is hilarious, sweet, and sexy. Nix, a cocky quarterback, is handsome, sexy, and caring. Elle is a complex character, feisty, strong, beautiful, and vulnerable, with trust issues. She definitely is a tough cookie. I loved their banter, and I loved to follow them in their journey. The ending is beautiful. The supporting characters are great. Jason Clarke and Emma Wilder did an amazing job with the narration. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to listen to to Jules and Berk's story.

Witty and steamy enemies to lovers romance!

I just loved reading The Second We Met by Maya Hughes when it first came out. So, when I had a chance to listen to the audio version, I was excited. Narrated by Jason Clarke and Emma Wilder, they truly brought this enemies to lovers romance with steamy chemistry and witty banter to life.

The second Elle met Nix, she thought she had him all figured out. Cocky, confident and charming, the sexy football player drove her crazy. If she never saw him again, life would be good. Elle’s previous relationships may have colored how she saw the men in her life, but even with her tough exterior, she was truly vulnerable.

For about a year and a half, Nix and Elle were all but enemies. When she has enough, she makes a decision that puts Nix front and center in her life. Could she have been wrong about Nix all this time? I loved the back and forth between them and watching them fall as they break down each other’s walls. I also loved the secondary characters and I can’t wait to see what is in store for them! I loved listening to The Second We Met by Maya Hughes and recommend this a must-read and/or listen!

Happy listening!

Fantastic listen

What starts off as a bitter neighbors story turns into a fantastic fill your heart romance. Nix and Elle have an explosive start when she walks into his house thinking it was her new place to live. The tension and banter at the beginning was hysterical and I loved the pull. Nix truly was a swoonworthy hero in this story and I love how his feelings were on his sleeve. Elle’s character was fun and strong although a little self righteous at times. The way this story came together truly has left my heart so full with a smile plastered on my face.

Love this series!

In this second book of the series, we get the golden boy, Phoenx "Nix" Russo's story. This enemies to lovers story will have you swooning for this golden boy who is just the boy next door. As Elle learns more and more about the guy she has hated for over a year, her guard comes down and she finds herself in the spot she hates to be in. To trust or not to trust. Trusting a man isn't something that comes easily to her. Nix is a golden boy though and he a perfect book boyfriend. I was so head over heels in love with him. If Elle didn't come to her senses, I was going to have to run off with him!

This was a great story in this series. It can be read as a standalone, although book 1 was just as good so you will definitely not want to miss it! Great read!

The narrators did a great job bringing this story to life. I really loved the way they were able to make me see these characters so clearly. It really added to the story.

The Second We Met

I loved the first book in the Fulton U series and thought there's no way book two will be as good. I am happy to say I was proven 100% wrong!

Phoenix 'Nix' Russo and Elle Masterson are neighbors who do not get along. She has disliked him from pretty much day one and he is tired of her calling the police on the parties thrown at his and his roommates' house. After working together on a spring break volunteer project, though, opinions and feelings start to change.

Both Elle and Nix are under immense pressure as their senior year of college comes to a close. They each face tough decisions on what to do next and how much they let others influence what their next steps will be. Both Elle and Nix's situations felt realistic and it was easy to see how past experiences were influencing them. Their connection was strong even when they disliked each other. I loved their banter and the evolution of their relationship.

The author also did a fantastic job of creating a group of secondary characters that were more than just filler. Of course Reece and Seph from the first book appear, but Elle's friend Jules and Nix's other roommates were so much fun to read. She also set up books three and four and I am dying to read them even though I just finished book two!

The narrators did a fantastic job bringing Nix, Elle, and the rest of the characters to life. They were perfect for this book!

🍯 Sweet as honey 🍯

Lordy did I love this story! Nix was just as charming and as dashing as you'd expect from a quarterback but he was incredibly sweet and caring and only showed his douchery on occasion. Elle is quirky and exhausted. She definitely put Nix in his place a few times and he ended up completely smitten with the only girl on campus not tripping over her feet to tell him how amazing he was. Elle wasn't tossing out the compliments where Nix was concerned. But the more they spen around each other, the more they start to depend on each other. Elle struggles with some trust issues. Nix seems to demand the spotlight even when he doesn't want it.

I laughed so much with these too. I found myself smiling wistfully. They were enchanting together, just sweet as pie... or honey! Let's seriously not forget that when they came together it was a whirlwind of tension, heat, and a wanton passion that shocked the both of them. Maya Hughes sets us up perfectly for the next book with Jules and Berk. These two have already set my interest on high alert! I can't wait to see what he thinks when he find his naughty-letter writing vixon!

Jason Clarke and Emma Wilder are fantastic together. They sound JUST like I imagine Elle and Nix or perhaps I now imagine them as the characters they played because they fit so flawlessly. Nix (played by Clarke) was on an emotional roller-coaster at times and Jason really executed that wonderfully. Same with Elle and Emma, really. The emotion was felt all throughout the story!

Be prepared to laugh & swoon!!

I loved this fun enemies to lovers romance. Be prepared to laugh and swoon as Elle and Nix's story unfolds. The sparks are hot and plentiful as sharp, clever barbs fly back and forth and the sexual tension simmers. I loved these characters so much. You could sympathize with them and relate to them. Elle has earned those heavy protective walls she has the hard way and even if I sometimes felt a bit frustrated by how difficult they were to get past, I could also completely understand her desperate need to protect her heart with the huge trust issues she had. As for Nix, well it is not easy to find the courage to walk your own path. Burdened by expectations and having a deep seated longing for approval have made him always stick to the path of least resistance. What made this story so special was that it was not just swoon worthy romance about finding love. It was also a wonderful story about learning who you really are, accepting how things are, finding the courage to take that chance and daring to risk your heart even after you have had it broken before. This book offers dual narration and if I can say so, I thought they were simply perfect for these characters. Their performance was spot on and really helped pull you into the story and made you want to stay there. A simply terrific read that left me already craving book #3 of this fantastic series.

Nix and Elle!

Nix’s father was a professional football player and he has been groomed since he was a child to follow in his footsteps. Trying to balance the demands it places on his body against the expectations of his father has him wondering how everything will play out.

Elle is a serious student who has her eyes set firmly on the future however the present is becoming a little hard to manage. Being Nix’s neighbor is a test of her patience and she has grown weary of the noise and parties coming from his house, but she never expected that calling the police would have them working together.

When Nix is tasked with volunteering for his spring break to escape a small altercation with the law he never expected his boss would be the one person who was responsible for him being there. Let the fun begin!

Sweet and sexy there is no denying that Elle and Nix belong together but finding a way to balance their present and future may be the biggest challenge of all. The performance of the narrators draw you in and made a great story even better.
