With the publication of his first novel, The Hound of Rowan, Henry H. Neff won a huge readership eager for more of his wildly imagined fantasy series.

In this riveting sequel, Neff expands on the world of his first novel and pens a work of even greater scope and complexity. When evil forces conspire to wield the Book of Toth, chaos breaks out - leaving the only hope for the future in the hands of the Rowan Academy's Max McDaniels and his trusted friend David Menlo.

I always wondered what happened after the second book, because my local libraries didn’t have the rest of the series! I came back to it because every time I butter toast I think of Mum affectionately buttering the toast of the person (no spoilers) she is planning to eat who leaves pockmarks in the toast trying to do it themselves… I also often think of Mr McDaniel’s MeatMeister 3000. Such rich characters.

The narration is wonderful, so many accents done so seamlessly, I am instantly transported into the world.

I also never forgot the mythology of the Shea … captivating. And Astaroth is well written too. I like the way Max seems to battle with himself and isn’t perfect, but is ultimately seems to be motivated by love and connection with his family and chosen family, which is all that seems to matter in the end. Wonderful series, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
