Publisher's Summary

The pulse-pounding sequel to The Maze Runner. Thomas was sure that escape from the maze meant he and the Gladers would get their lives back. But no one knew what sort of life they were going back to. The earth is a wasteland.

Government and order have disintegrated and now Cranks, people driven to murderous insanity by the infectious disease known as the Flare, roam the crumbling cities hunting for their next victim - and meal. Thomas can only wonder - does he hold the secret of freedom somewheren his mind? Or will he forever be at the mercy of WICKED?

Continuing Strong

Only a few hours into the Maze Runner I knew I would have to finish this series, The Scorch Trials picks up seamlessly from where the first book left and only deepens the mystery. It's full of twists and turns that left me begging for my favorite characters survival. Just like the first book this will have you racing to the end.

Loving the series.

I won't give anything away but the twists in this plot are great and can't wait for the last book in this series.

Great second book to Maze Runner

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Because it's exciting and a family book you can listen to with your older children, no rude bits.

What did you like best about this story?

The excitement.

Have you listened to any of Mark Deakins’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I was truly impressed with his voices, he does it so well. Even the Mexican is stuck in my head now Mochachos.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No

Any additional comments?

Loved this book so much we went on to listen to the third. My teenage son also loved it. Great way to get non readers interested in books.

My review of The Maze Runner covers all 3 books

What other book might you compare The Scorch Trials to, and why?

I've heard so many people compare these books to the classic Lord of the Flies. NOT POSSIBLE. It's not about a group of young men going FERAL on each other, they have structure and yes there is conflict but not like Lord of the Flies chaotic and brutal storyline, this is extremely brutal too but in a very different way. The guys for the most part stick together like glue. I perceived this book to be more akin to Divergent meets The 5th Wave but I hate comparing books.

What about Mark Deakins’s performance did you like?

EXCELLENTI'll cut and paste what I said about him from book 1.I think he was excellent, I was initially concerned to be honest hearing his initial monotone droning, but after 10 minutes oh boy did that all make so much sense as he unleashed all the accents and different characters he bought to life, he was incredible. You had no doubt who was who! As in which character was clearly speaking while he was reading, you didn't even have to think. You seriously need him to start reading more books, out of all the books I've listened to not a single other reader that I've heard yet can do this to his standard.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The entire book/trilogy is emotional and I think that's the point of this series. No mater how bad life gets there is hope if you fight for it

Any additional comments?

I loved book 1, book 2 is also excellent and keeps a very fast pace and is another addictive read
