About this listen

In a sizzling return to New York Times bestselling author Susan Stoker’s Alpha Cove, a former Navy chef meets his match in a woman who holds her own in a man’s world…and he wants her to be a part of his.

Like his brothers, Zach Young has recently moved home to Maine after the untimely death of his father. In addition to helping his mom maintain Lobster Cove, the family’s beloved property, the Navy cook has big dreams of opening his own restaurant…but, for now, has reluctantly settled for a lobster shack. Not exactly what he had in mind, though a new lobsterwoman in town has made his daily trips to the docks worthwhile.

Having been literally bullied out of her last port city a little farther down the coast, Marit Phillips isn’t in Rockville long before the familiar grumblings begin…hardened lobstermen thinking a petite woman can’t possibly do the job, no matter how experienced. Fortunately, her new boss judges her based on work ethic…and the handsome cook who visits their boat every day? He seems to see things in Marit that even she doesn’t.

But as much as Zach builds her up, there’s another man in town, his polar opposite, trying to tear her down. And he proves more determined than the couple thought possible…

I must say this is the first time in a long time that I felt. Susan missed the mark with this novel. She is very good at writing the sinster minds of the bad people, so much so that the tension grows, putting you on the edge of your seat and wanting to listen to one more chapter.
In this book I didn't hear much about the sinister plot. Or the bad guy, it was mainly from the point of view of the victim, which is the heroine.
I really missed the angst that Susan puts together in her novels. And as for the alpha, out of all of her heroes, he's the least that I'm taken with. Almost always her heroes are savvy and switched on. But with Zach, he seems to have very little intuition and more emotion. Unlike his brothers, Linc and Chad.
Susan always writes her books about family, Love respect and loyalty and in this book, It excels with Zach as he has all those qualities and more. its very easy to imagine yourself in a cosy armchair cuddled up with this man for the rest of your life.
Although the plot had misogynistic overtones, it wasn't as deep as what Susan normally writes, and I found it to be sweet and warm, leaving me with a comfy, happy feelings.
however, I much prefer her military type books where there are conspiracy theories and lots of action or even her books where there is a stalker with evil plans. when you get his side of the story, everything becomes more volatile and intense.
