About this listen

What would you do to survive the apocalypse?

Jack Gee, hiking the New Zealand mountains, is blissfully unaware of the Hemorrhage virus sweeping the world. A desperate message from his wife, Dee, alerts him, and he must return to Hamilton. On the way, he is captured by flesh-eating Variants and taken to their meat locker. To escape, he will need to draw on all his experience as an outdoorsman, but first, he must find the will to survive.

Surrounded by Variants, Dee is trapped in her Hamilton basement with a group of survivors. With Jack missing, and dwindling food supplies, she must leave the basement, her only defense a katana.

The nightmare has just begun. Will they find each other in the chaos?

I have enjoyed Adrian's take on an extinction apocalypse based in New Zealand. I have always wondered what an apocalypse where guns are not readily available would look like .I found that series.

A good effort!!

Holds your attention, when you are waving at the characters, grimacing and swearing all whilst driving then you are captivated. Good really good. Believable characters and not to many , so that you don’t get lost. If you like: After it Happened, The Borrowed World, Mountain Man I recommend it.
Well done to the author, thank you, had to search a few hay stacks to find another needle.

2/3rds through yet ordering the next. That’s good really good!

It was really nice to get a southern hemisphere take on the apocalypse genre. So sick of the U.S. centric stories that continue to get churned out like bullets from a rail gun.
The story itself, and the sequels, are quite easy to follow, i.e. good for long distance driving. The first book is the best of the series because, like most series, the follow-ups tend to stretch belief a little too far beyond the boundaries set in the first book.
Having said that...good, entertaining story that doesn't ram American apple pie down your throat and examines a world gone to hell from a different perspective and culture.

Entertaining

I have to admit, it took me a little to properly get into this story but I’m glad I stuck with it.
I loved that it was set in New Zealand as I am from Australia and adore storyline’s set in our own backyard and neighbourhood.

The author is skilled at weaving a believable tale about mutated beings or variants as they are called in the story. The characters were great too, Dee and Jack were so real with experiences not unlike what everyday people would go through.
Let’s not forget the will to live, it enables those without all the weaponry to survive. I loved how Dee caught on that scent was important and masking your scent so much more then you first think.
Please give this book a chance - I’m off to see if book 2 is out and get to reading it if so.

Great Story! Stick with it.
