Story
Hope Dunne has carved out a name for herself as a top photographer, known the joys of marriage and motherhood and the heartbreak of loss. In her chic SoHo loft, Hope is content with her life, finding serenity and beauty through the lens of her camera. She isn't looking for a man or excitement. But these things find her when she accepts a last-minute assignment to fly to London at Christmas and photograph one of the world's most celebrated writers - an Irish-American author known for novels of thrilling literary darkness.
Publisher's Summary
Filled with heartbreak and betrayal, triumph and fulfillment, The Right Time is an intimate, richly rewarding novel about pursuing one's passion and succeeding beyond one's wildest dreams.
Abandoned by her mother at age seven, Alexandra Winslow takes solace in the mysteries she reads with her devoted father - and soon she is writing them herself, slowly graduating to dark, complex crime stories that reflect skill, imagination, and talent far beyond her years. After her father's untimely death, at 14 Alex is taken in by the nuns of a local convent, where she finds 26 mothers to take the place of the one she lost, and the time and encouragement to pursue her gift. Alex writes in every spare moment, gripped by the plots and themes and characters that fill her mind.
Midway through college, she has finished a novel - and manages to find a seasoned agent and then a publisher. But as she climbs the ladder of publishing success, she resolutely adheres to her father's admonition: men read crime thrillers by men only - and so Alexandra Winslow publishes under the pseudonym Alexander Green, her true identity known only to those closest to her and creating a double life that isolates her. Her secret life as the mysterious and brilliantly successful Alexander Green - and her own life as a talented young woman - expose her to the envious, the arrogant, and Hollywood players who have no idea who she really is. Always, the right time to open up seems just out of reach and would cost her dearly. Once her double life and fame are established, the price of the truth is always too high.

Repetitive and slow
I was hoping that there was going to be a turn in the story and some excitement, like most of Danielle Steels other books, this just didn’t have it.
I felt like the story was stuck in Groundhog Day for 3/4 of the book.

Hard to understand the five star ratings given this book
I have read so many well written books.. this one was the least engaging. I believe even the narrator was thinking this as he read without expression. I had hoped it would would become something interesting but it never did.

Disappointed
I'm an avid recording books reader. I've also been a fan of Danielle Steel for many many years. Unfortunately while the narrator did a good job, the content felt like it was phoned in. The text repeated things over and over again. I would say that the plot was reiterated in every single chapter. While I liked the story, I felt that it treated the reader like they weren't paying attention to previous content or that the content was to difficult to understand. Relationships didn't build, just explained in past tense. Very disappointed.

this was such a great book.
this book has the right amount of ebb and Flow. I love how it shows how a mystery crime writer started off as a young girl being mentored by her father, to the woman she became entered by many great men in her life. It show how talented she was regardless of her gender that she could do the job of a man. I love how this story rose, and I hate it when it ended great book must read

This book grabbed me from the beginning. I felt as if I went through life with Alex. From childhood, young adulthood, and onto adulthood. Experiencing her griefs, struggles, adventures, and successes. I was sad to see the story end. I wanted more!
