Marianne has a life others dream of. A beautiful townhouse on the best street in the neighbourhood. Three bright children who are her pride and joy. Sometimes her past still hurts: losing her mother early, growing up in foster care. But her husband, Simon, is always there. A successful surgeon, he’s the envy of every woman they’ve ever met. Flowers, gifts, trips to France: nothing is too good for his family. Then Simon says another woman’s name. Outstanding, A Knockout Story
The narrator did an excellent job creating a different voice for every character, which is no easy feat, with as many as there were. I only have the story 4 stars bevause I found the constant ping-ponging of characters/time periods quite confusing at times.
However, that is easily overlooked in light of the overall story arc, plot, and the deftness with which the author keeps you guessing until the end. I'm looking up more of her work immediately!

Waaaaaaaaaay too long.
While the ending was decent, the story could have been told in much less than the 12 plus hours of meandering nothingness contained in most of this story. I actually fell asleep a few times while listening, and, thinking that I had missed something important, re-wound to find out that I missed absolutely nothing. So, if you fall asleep while listening, and you will, there is really no need to rewind. Just pick it up where you woke up...you won’t have missed a thing. It feels as though this so called ‘reunion’ is happening in real time. People sitting around, drinking tea, going to the beach, and taking walks. I didn’t think there were any huge twists or surprises here, as these stories are pretty formulaic. Also, this story is so long, you’ve got plenty of time to figure it out.

Predictable
I guessed every twist. And I wasn’t trying that hard. The red herrings were obvious, and the characters had no real depth. That said, it was easy fun listen that got me through a day of tidying house.

Narration elevates the material
The tag-line promises "an utterly ripping psychological thriller with a jaw-dropping twist ". Sorry, not even close. I saw every plot "twist" early on. The author seemed to think that more plot equals more suspense. The reason this story is entertaining, and it does have some suspenseful elements, is the narration by Karen Cass. She's excellent ! The story, though, is pretty implausible.

A hot mess!
A good psychological thriller requires multi-dimensional characters who resemble real people. I didn't find them here; there was no explaining what psychological factors motivated these characters. The whole premise of having a reunion of those present when Claire's sister disappeared decades before made no sense to me. The book was very slow getting started as the many characters were introduced. The "shocking" twists near the conclusion came out of left field--but I guess if you're not dealing with real people, then pretty much anything is possible. I'm surprised that so many listeners enjoyed this.

Really good, but far too long.
I really enjoyed the book overall; there were only a couple things that bothered me.
For starters, the narrator; she keeps a good, up tempo pace, moving the whole thing along, however, she does this strange inflection with her voice, to make (what I assume) is a strained or cracking noise, to provide emphasis on a point, or dialogue. The problem is, it ends up sounding a bit like a weird Christopher Walken impression.
The storyline itself, is good, it’s just far, far too long.

Frustratingly ended
This book, for the most part as it was well written and kept me listening. But my main bugbear was the ending. It felt too contrived and although most people enjoyed the twist I felt it was forced and didn’t make any sense. I can’t go into details for fear of spoiling the ending but you can’t deceive readers by writing whole chapters on the way someone behaves only to then change everything so it fits your ending! There were so many contradictions in characters personalities, motives and actions that it left me with too many questions to really say I enjoyed the book.

Improbable but it works
I found the resolution of this narrative slightly improbable and it left me with too many questions. Despite this ... and a tendency to be self indulgent with some chapters that contribute little to the plot and slow down the pace- I enjoyed this book. I will now buy her other one.
