One of the best-known and most beloved historical novelists, Georgette Heyer, as ever, captures a whole new audience's heart.

Stepping into the wrong carriage at a Sussex village, Elinor Rochdale is swept up in a thrilling and dangerous adventure. Overnight the would-be governess becomes mistress of a ruined estate and partner in a secret conspiracy to save a family's name. By midnight, she is a bride, by dawn, a widow.

A typically thrilling and sweeping tale of romance and tragedy, The Reluctant Widow is Georgette Heyer at her best - the undisputed queen of historical romance.

Meeting an old friend with joyful recollection

I loved hearing read-and well read- a story I've always enjoyed re-reading over the years.

Let down by the narration

One of Heyer’s more nonsensical plots but still full of fun and romance. Unfortunately the pleasure was marred for me by the narrator who got his voices mixed and his sentences garbled at key moments.

Poor editing and narration ruins this version

I love this book and have read it many times. I also have the last Audible version, which was a rather flat narration, so I decided to try another narrator. A mistake!

Poor editing or poor narration for about 70% of this version make it very difficult to enjoy. After each 'Mistake' I stopped listening and waited for the next one!

Either the editing of narration made : sentences not finish, words get mispronounced, gaps appear in critical dialogue and whole sentences read out of context.
In several places it's obvious that the narrator had lost track of the actual thread under discussion and had NOT read the sections before recording. The number of attempts to change the emphasis on a certain word when he realised he had got it wrong was both annoying and amusing.

The above gives a very bad impression of an excellent boom. Such a shame. Your proof listeners did a poor job in this one.

Relaxing fluff

A solid Heyer novel and nicely performed by the narrator. Good for listening to when you're in a mood for something light.
