About this listen

Detective Anna Travis is investigating the brutal murder of a young woman whose body was discovered in the Thames, brutalised and severed in half, a red flower in her hair.

With the case bearing an eerie resemblance to the famous unsolved murder case of Elizabeth Short—known as the Black Dahlia—media interest intensifies, and fears of a copycat take hold. But with almost no clues, the case is slowly going cold. That is until the killer reaches out to the press....

Determined to solve the case, Anna must keep her wits about her before the sadistic killer takes his next victim.

A captivating and exciting listen. I often found myself laughing, gasping, frowning and holding my breath in suspense. I was completely invested this story and the outcome. I started reading this book but i couldn’t wait to get home to pick up the book and when I found it on Audible it was a game changer. A very binge-worthy listen!

Kept me captivated.

I found the narration a bit tiresome and overly dramatic. This impacts the way you feel about Langton. It’s verbal abuse to my mind. All he seems to do is yell, snap at people, (showing no leadership qualities) and behave immaturely. When are these ever qualities to seek in a lover? Then you question Anna’s attraction to him and her adoration which seems half witted. Maybe the writing doesn’t convey his power convincingly. Maybe this police procedural is a bit dated. What an unhealthy dynamic here.

Compelling listening.

How I wanted to love the Anna Travis series, finding a many volumed British crime series by a fabulous author and read by my favourite orator, the excitement. But sadly, I have struggled.
The storyline of book two would have been captivating enough without needing the layer of Anna’s Stockholm Syndrome-esqu “relationship” with Langton. Having heard a short preview of book three, annoyingly it would seem he and their dysfunctional relationship will take center stage, due to my trust in Lynda’s storyline prowess, I shall cross my fingers and persist.

Less loser Langton, more Anna please
