About this listen

Based on the bestselling Audible Original by Anthony Khaseria, THE RATCATCHER is a thrilling police drama for fans of Joy Ellis and Michael Wood.

It's been twelve weeks since Dresden Commissioner Paula Beyer was sent to the small town of Freidorf to investigate the disappearance of several teenagers. Now she is sitting opposite a psychologist who is tasked with figuring out whether Paula's statements about the case are true, or whether she needs to be suspended until further notice. While Paula believes that the young people were kidnapped by someone mimicking the legend of the Pied Piper of Hamelin, her colleagues believe that Paula is indulging in a fantasy and endangering the investigation.

If Paula wants to stop the perpetrator, she has to convince the psychologist of her version of the story. But the longer the conversation goes on, the more Paula doubts herself…

Starring Ayesha Antoine, Nicholas Asbury, Rachel Atkins, Lydia Brownell, Henry Calcutt, Patrick Campbell, Gunnar Cauthery, Harry Chalmers-Morris, Saffron Coomber, Clare Corbett, Phoebe Douglas, James Dryden, Tia Dutt, Raj Ghatak, Pete Gold, Corey Graham, Derek Griffiths, Malachi Hall, Leah Marks, Rachael Louise Miller, Niamh Marie Smith, , Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Kyle McReynolds, Shogo Miyakita, Eva O’Hara, Dan Parr, Esme Patey-Ford, Travis Phillips, Nigel Pilkington, Penelope Rawlins, Enzo Squillino Jr, Annie Taylor, Cathy Tyson, Keith Wickham, Danny Horn, Matthew Woodyatt and Rufus Wright.

Absolutely brilliant. I hope there is a second book. So very clever. The only negative is sometimes the audio engineer didn’t quite get the balance of background versus Paula correct.

That’s a wow from me

I’m not sure how I’m gonna go back to a normal audiobook. This was an amazing story and the production was on point.

Amazing production and story

I loved the suspense, entertwining the bstory of the Pied piper of Hamlin with modern times. The characters were real, relatable and gritty, I was, underwhelmed by the ending.

Wow, what a great listen!

Thanks to Dolby Atmos, it was a good experience overall. The story being full of unexpected twists and turns heightened the experience further.
However, I wish it had concluded on a high note and that we had received full closure as listeners. In the end, all I could think of was "Okay...so what was the point of it all?"
The accents were a constant source of pain for me. Everyone had different accents from the UK, even though the story was clearly set in Germany. Because an audio medium expects its audience to primarily use their own imagination, the makers need to be more mindful of such detailing. Lack of it only serves to obstruct the listeners from fully engaging with the context that the story is trying to provide.

Immersive experience but underwhelming ending

A great story well told…. Butttt I hope there’s a sequel somewhere to find out what happened and how it finishes?

I wasn’t expecting that..
