About this listen

From the superb Jeffrey Archer, The Prodigal Daughter is the magnificent story of love and politics. It is the enthralling sequel to the global phenomenon Kane and Abel, described by The Times as a 'classic novel of modern literature'.

Hers was the ultimate ambition . . .

The titanic battle between two men obsessed with destroying each other follows on to the next generation. Florentyna Rosnovski, Abel's daughter, inherits all of her father's drive, but none of his wealth.

A woman gifted with beauty and spirit, but above all with indomitable will, she sets out in pursuit of an ambition that dwarfs both Kane and Abel, as she battles for the highest office of all . . .

Previously I’ve enjoyed Jeffery Archer novels and found the first in this series, Kane and Abel, to be very entertaining. This, however, was a disappointment and I wish I had read the reviews before buying as the complaints are spot on.
In short - a lazy effort. The first half of the book is essentially a rehash of Book 1 written with less skill and often, I suspect, almost verbatim with just a slight change in perspective.
The second half of the book was adequate but hardly the engaging plot line of Book 1.
Maybe it would have been a less grating experience if I hadn’t gone on to this book directly after Book 1 and some of the story line had faded.
However, it was still a lazy effort - I felt like the author had a deadline with the publisher and was stuck for inspiration and churned this out in desperation. Having listened to an interview with Mr Archer where he spoke of his meticulousness in drafting and redrafting, I felt this book did not reflect this commitment to the craft of story telling. The first half of this book should have gone in the bin, and then the remainder refined and the story expanded.

A disappointment

This book was disappointing. If you have read Kane and Abel then you could skip the first half altogether. The second half was boring and predictable. Maybe the narrator is to blame she was very dull and monotone.

No where near as good as Kane and Abel

it was good to start then it started to bore me when she went into politics

Good to start

So many political passages in here that lost my interest. Also the narrators voice was quite robotic and lacked warmth.
Story wrapped up quite well at the end

Not as good as Kane & Abel

Florentina is the female icon that every woman should learn to admire. Her persona is strong, passionate and filled with intellect.

Archer has delivered again with this wonderful sequel to Kane and Abel.

Energetic tale of a bold woman
