In the second book of John Christopher's classic series, Will Parker and his cohorts have spent a year living among the free men in the White Mountains. Story
In the 23rd century, humanity is enjoying a comparative utopia. Yet life on Earth is about to change forever. Feriton Kane’s investigative team has discovered the worst threat ever to face mankind, and we’ve almost no time to fight back. The supposedly benign Olyix plan to harvest humanity, in order to carry us to their god at the end of the universe. And as their agents conclude schemes down on earth, vast warships converge above to gather this cargo. Some factions push for humanity to flee, to live in hiding amongst the stars, although only a chosen few would make it out in time.

Story
Two hundred years ago, aliens invaded Earth. A violent war followed. The enemy won. Some of us escaped, most of us didn’t. On Proxima they flourished - the invasion forgotten. On Earth we floundered - the horror began. Their world is advanced, peaceful, and secure. Our world is broken, savage, and overrun. A new invasion is coming. A hunger that has swallowed half the universe. They don’t care which planet we live on. They want to end us all. But where there is life, there is hope. And where there is hope, there are heroes. This time, vengeance will be ours.

The End of the Tripod Trilogy!
This is the final book in the Tripod Trilogy. I didn't enjoy this one as much as the others, but it's still good regardless! Of course, I had to find out what happened to the boys and whether or not the Resistance would succeed shaking control away from the alien Masters!
William Gaminara narrates all of the Tripod books, and he does a good job reading the story and distinguishing the boys from one another with various accents.
I read the prequel "When the Tripods Came" right after this in order to finish off the series.

Preteen book
I can remember this book from late grade school, and wanted to revisit the past, This book and the other two in the series were entertaining then and somewhat now. Mr. Christopher had a good introduction as to how and why the series came about. I think he achieved his goal.

classic
I have loved these books since childhood, in the 80's. The audio version is really good. I'm going on a John Christopher binge now. There aren't many audio books available, but plenty of old paperbacks on ebay. He's a great author, something about his writing really draws me in and keep my attention.

Enjoyable even as an adult
I read this as a ya, and picked up the first one a year or so ago (and the others this summer). While it’s more simplistic than I remember, it still holds up well. Definitely a fun read.

An excellent last book in a series beyond YA.
A more than fitting ending for a meaningful journey in both humanity and friendship. As always in good fiction, the time and place are secondary to this good story. I do wish women were more represented as one of the protagonists, but the slight is far from intentional. I love this trilogy of books.

Great kids book
I some ways I felt like this last book was rush and pradictable. but I suppose that's how all endings are, when you see the end coming. however I felt the narrator quite good at acting and developing the characters.

Not Just for Young Adults
Having enjoyed the BBC Tripods series as a teenager, I couldn't resist trying the audiobooks. As this is a 'young adults ' series, my expectations were not high, but I was very pleasantly surprised. Although not without plot holes, the story moves forward at a pace, and young Will's excitement, enthusiasm, and rashness all make for a very engaging narrative. This is complemented by the excellent narration of William Gaminara. I thought initially to only listen to the first book, but ended up getting the whole trilogy. Highly recommended!

A whole new world.
The audio books and my kindle have opened up a whole new world to me. Having had reading difficulties throughout my early life I am now able to enter a whole realm of adventure. I have devoured the Tripods series The Pool of Fire is the third book and continues the longing to follow Will's challenges to escape; his life as a slave to discover the Tripods life style and use it against them. I never ever considered I would become a bookworm but I'm well and truly hooked and can't wait to listen to the next chapters. If you like adventure, science fiction and suspense, the whole series is a must and i'm so glad I purchased them.
