Enjoyed

I listen to these while at work during the day, these help my day progress pretty contently (if that's a word). I became invested in the characters after I learned to adjust to the narrator. I don't really like the narrator. I don't like her using accents...sometimes the Marco/Peyton situation became annoying, but maybe cause I know folks like that in real life..Anyway, if you like entertaining stories that move along nicely, where you may be able to picture the characters. I recommend this

Utter waste of a credit

Nancy Drew/The Hardy Boys try to do D.D. Warren/Harry Bosch (And fail, miserably.) I'm all about flawed characters but the characters in these story lines are flat out cartoonish and without depth. I have tired for six hours to find something about any of the characters that is even slightly appealing and just can't. At the core, Peyton is whiney, with no back bone. The characters built around her, the support cast so to speak, so over the top cartoonish the whole thing feels like a 9th grader is writing a back yard play about something they think they have a working knowledge of but really have no clue how the real world works, how adults interact. The stereo types that flood the story lines is just mind boggling. A quick google search shows the author is a high school English teacher and it shows in the writing style...or lack thereof...in the story lines and character building. Narration is seriously lacking. The narrator doesn't have enough range in skill for the amount of character voices needed. The inflections, accents and cadence are grating on the ears. Fact is, the narrator doesn't have much to work with in the characters so it was a stab in the dark to find enough range to assign each character something distinct enough so they each each stand alone in the narration. The stereotyping the author used in the characters is about the only thing the narrator has to use to get a sense of the characters and sadly, they grabbed that with gusto and took the stereotyping of each character over the top in the narration.

Horrible

Books are terrible. Both content and narration. Children’s stories would be more interesting. Sorry but this waste not money well spent.

I really enjoyed the books.

The narrator on this one is pretty bad! In one book there is a character that they state is highly intelligent and yet she reads with a voice that comes across as mentally retarded.

An Awesome Listen

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the narrator and it is 64 hours of some of the best story telling ever. The characters are well written, and intriguing with criminals and crimes that are unique. With crimes to solve from both the FBI and the local people, there is never a dull moment. There is something for everyone, suspense, drama, mystery, humour and a touch of romance. This combination of author and narrator creates pure enjoyment. The best part is that these characters continue on since the series is not finished yet.

Terrible accents and a little harsh on the ear

I have enjoyed the series however there are two points that have grated through the narration: 1) the narrator has a very harsh voice on the ear, she is unable to do accents and can be very stilted when reading out, to the detriment of the characters. 2) the writer has a very peculiar take on English customs, the language used to portray English characters and has obviously just done a very basic read up from an internet page that held dubious content. I won’t go into how she dealt with the no gun policy... Her style is easy lostening

A+ apart from the English accents.

Loved these books. But, one of the worse English accents I have ever heard! practice definitely needed.

Not to be taken too seriously

Whilst I agree with the scathing review I have to admit to enjoying these series. Yes unrealistic and simplistic but good fun too and the characters are well drawn if a bit too stereotypical. It’s really more chick lit than crime fiction but it keeps me entertained.

EXCEPTIONAL LISTEN

A fascinating series - quirky Americans, solving crimes both locally and internationally. Peyton Brooks is an ex-homicide detective turned FBI agent. She joins an elite FBI squad that handles open, oddball, seemingly unsolvable cases. The squad is run by an ex-lover of her ex-police-partner-turned-love-interest. Yes, it's a hot mess, but quite enjoyable. The squad travels to the Delta, and other California locales including Hollywood of course. Internationally, we visit the UK and Mexico. Peyton has never been out of San Francisco - we see the world through her child-like eyes. Peyton has a big heart and her own luggage she drags about. However, she is quite 'tough on crime'. The rest of the characters are uniquely tooled. The mysteries are solid. The relationships true. Humor abounds - it's quite the smile. I truly enjoyed the set. Worth the listen at twice the price. It's a lot of audio.

So poor

I have listened to over a 100 audiobooks and this must be the worst. Poor sometimes laughable narration and story lines a amateur could write. I purchased the 6 book set and will never start number two unless I am stranded on an island with no other contact. Even then it might be easier to take my life

Definitely an acquired taste...

If you like pure make-believe with little-to-no research or basis in reality while indulging in the main character's simplistic internal prattling about her insecurities without any tangible thread throughout the 'character development', this book is for you. While the story moves along at a quick pace, and he characters are likeable, these books are riddled with poor research. Book 3, werewolves in London, is an absolute atrocity and makes a mockery of British culture and language. Also, naming the British-Indian doctor "Doctor Curry" is downright offensive. This isn't helped by the fact that the narrator utterly fails at accents, although that doesn't stop her from trying. At one point I had to stop listening because I was crying with laughter. She does a passable New York and Boston accent, but her British, French and South American attempts are hard to take seriously. Again, the Indian accent is just plain offensive. As my husband remarked upon me playing a snippet for him: "Nice to see that the author of 'Belinda Blinked' has branched out to American crime fiction".
