What a book

Have read all of Jo Spain’s books but this is by far my favourite. Can’t wait for the next one!

So many holes in the story line !

Don't bother. The main characters including police are in fear of their lives but the heroine saves the day and suffers no retribution. Ridiculous plot. 10 out of 10 for disappointment.

A good read

I took a little while to get into it, but am glad I stuck with it. Interesting plot though somewhat rushed at the end.

Wow! Did not disappoint

Wow, just wow. Jo Spain is one of my favourite authors and I most definitely enjoyed this book. All I can say is that the cover is misleading. I kept thinking about the story and guessed what was to be guessed and pretty chuffed about it. I so wanted the narrator to be Aiofie Macmahon. Jo Spain if you are reading this review (who am I kidding) please please choose her for your next book. Love it.

Narration good, story not so

This book didn’t live up to all the positive reviews for me. I found the book quite tedious but made myself listen to the end in case it improved or I was missing something. Original by-line has been changed so version I purchased was misleading - not sure if that was the point of it. I didn’t engage with the main character or care about what happened to her.

Really struggled to get into this

I have listened to everyone one of Jo's books and really enjoyed them all, but I really struggled to get into this one, so much so that I almost gave up on it several times in the first third. It was very cleverly done in the end, but I wouldn't recommend it as her best work, and I have no idea why the publisher did not use Aoifie like normal?

Outstanding yarn with a truly unexpected twist.

5 stars. I got through this in record time, so much to think about, so much I got wrong. Lucky I was not a detective on this one. You’re gonna love it.

Mixed Bag at the end of the 🌈

Joe Spain deserves a 🏆 for somehow managing to include EVERY SINGLE front page political and social cliche imaginable. Bravo; that couldn’t have been easy.
*No Spoilers*
Truly, this is a pretty anti-🇺🇸 book. Like Erin’s sister, I kinda just wanted her to go bank to Ireland. I’m pretty secure in my nationality, otherwise I would’ve just given up a few hours in. However, by then, I was into the plot and my craving for a decent story kept me listening.

All that said, I enjoyed the character development, narrator (although Ireland snuck into American character voices occasionally), and overall premise. I’m just over the “cops are bad, people with money are bad, entitlement and privilege” low hanging fruit that every new release is not just peppered with, but splattered with 🍅🍎🫐🤮

great, riveting writing, one flaw

I found the trial dialogue unbelievable. They would use names. I know it's to keep the reader guessing, but I found it distracting and annoying.

Another fantastically twisty novel is best so far

Having read to most of Jo Spain's books now, I have come to eagerly await her next novel. I downloaded this straight away and listened to it over two days and,was captivated from the first chapter. And what a shocking opening it is, starting with a knock on the door and the policeman husband of Erin Kennedy throwing himself from the balcony of their apartment to his death. Not since last year's After the Fire, have I been so gripped from the onset of a book like this.
It is narrated by Sophie Jo Wasson rather than Michele Moran who did Dirty Little Secrets or my favourite, Aoife McMahon who has done most of Jo Spain's other books and this takes a little getting used to at first. However, there are plenty of twists and turns throughout that will keep you guessing until the end which manages to tread the fine line of being both unexpected and plausible.
Jo Spain is an author who,in my opinion, gets better with every book and I can't wait for the next one.

Deceptive front cover

There were some twists, it did make me want to keep listening, however, the byline is very misleading.
The narrator was perfect, her voice and accent fitted the role well

Disappointing

Confusing story involving lots of detail about side stories but along with going back & forth in time only ended up with me not being sure what was happening. The ending was rushed & outcome contrived.
I’d enjoyed several of Jo Spain’s other books but definitely not this one.

Brilliant!

This author gets it, that combination of written word, atmosphere, blood pounding story lines and twists that leave you feeling vertiginous!

I've listened to all MS Spains books on audible and eagerly await any new offering because I know I am in for a real treat, this book did not disapoint.

A tense thriller that really makes the old grey matter get to work. Great narration that lifts the story to another level. Be prepared to leave the real world on pause and get no sleep, cause its impossible to step out of Long Island until you reach the end xx
