About this listen

After participating in the empire's vassal war, Matt, Liz, and Aster now have a fire nipping after their heels. Or rather, their new manager, Luna. And she demands their best at all times, or she will drive them off The Path of Ascension.

With the Tier-10 tournament looming in front of them, the gang is going to have to dig deep if they want to continue on the path, but Luna isn't the only one who has plans.

Can Matt, Liz, and Aster survive the machinations of a Tier-40 who has created several Ascenders before? Or will they simply be another statistic on The Path?

Don't miss book four of this action-packed fantasy adventure that blends everything you love about LitRPG with xianxia.

About the series: This is a mix between LitRPG and xianxia. It's like a car that looks like a LitRPG with dungeons and skills, but the interior and engine are all xianxia. It features a magic system and progression system that are logically and internally consistent, as well as realistic fight scenes and a rational MC.

The story is a fast track timeline of training and character development as well as world building but it would of been nice if the book ended with the tier 10 tournament to give us some action but i guess it leaves us with something to look forward too in the next one

Necessary part of the story but could of been more

I don’t know what the other person who left a comment was talking about a lot of stuff got done.

It was good.

This arc is a slower burn than books 1-3 with a focus on worldbuilding and some training montage but it sets up all the pieces for the next and VERY impactful arc of the series the Tier 10 Path Tournament. For those of you who have only been listening and have the first 3 for comparison it might be a let down but it is worth listening to for the awesome narrator and so you are ready for the next one which will be incredible.

book 4 is just a transition, nothing actually happens throughout the entire thing... perhaps join 4 and 5 together so there is actually a point.

skip the frustration

Okay, I give up. The author has built a decent world, and the series definitely has some wonderful parts, but I just can't deal with an entire book of 'show don't tell.'

Book 4 revolves around Matt, Liz and Aster getting a manager and training to get stronger. There are some fun parts, like when they delve rifts, but for the most part it resorts to summaries of what our heroes have done, not active in-the-moment scenes. The timeline is broad in scope, covering 15+ years, but large parts of that time are covered by statements such as 'and then they trained for two years.' While I understand the intent is probably to make the book feel epic, what it really did was make me feel like I'd just read an entire books' worth of exposition.

This isn't a book. It's a summary of someone's adventures, which is different to telling an engaging story. And what I mean by that are there are whole chapters where we learn about what the characters have done over the last month, but we don't get to see them do it, only be told that they did. It's boring.

Still... there's enough 5-star reviews out there that a bunch of people must like it. My advice would be to check out the first few chapters. If you like them, you'll like the book. If you don't, it doesn't get any better.

Mind numbing training montage

This book was so full of boring fillers with absolutely no direction. What the hell happened? The first three books were fun and entertaining, but this one, I struggled to stay awake!!

What happened? This was a boring filler book!

This book is setting up for the next arc. I thoroughly enjoyed the rift creation aspects, and I’m looking forward to the tournament that will be coming in the next instalment!

Slow But Good

An unusual portion of this book consists of a description of events, like a recap, rather than experiencing events from the characters point of view.

Apart from a few exceptions, the parts that are from the main characters POV felt more like a collection of short stories, like an anthology, this made me feel less connected, engaged and interested in the characters and story compared with previous books.

I remain hopeful that book 5 will redeem this series.

Sorry, story continues but you have lost some of the storytelling.
Hopefully the next one will improve

ok but not as good as the previous books

I do not understand how this book could have been justified by the editor/ publisher. Sure there is some world building, but this isn’t a story, it’s merely a boring training montage. No stakes, no plot. So disappointing after the first 3 books.

Such a let down.
