Publisher's Summary

Random House presents the audiobook edition of The Passengers by John Marrs.

Eight self-drive cars set on a collision course. Who lives, who dies? You decide.

The new gripping thriller from the best-selling author of The One - soon to be a major Netflix series.

When someone hacks into the systems of eight self-drive cars, their passengers are set on a fatal collision course.

The passengers are: a TV star, a pregnant young woman, a disabled war hero, an abused wife fleeing her husband, an illegal immigrant, a husband and wife - and parents of two - who are travelling in separate vehicles and a suicidal man. Now the public have to judge who should survive, but are the passengers all that they first seem?

Intriguing but did rather go on and ruined by sfx

I did not make it to the end of this book and am returning as though the story was good with plenty of twists and I liked the way it encompassed the earlier "The One" which I really enjoyed.
But for anyone who likes to listen in the evening as a way to unwind I found the many and varied music stings which started off a lot the chapters really jarred especially as many of them sounded like ring tones and just as I was about to really relax ARGHHHHH another sound effect jolted me back to full alert.
So I am not sure if it was because it rattled my nerves as the last thing I want to hear when I am trying to wind down is a cacophony of ring tone like music stings, or if it just seemed to be very drawn out, far too implausible or it was just a bit dark for me but I just lost interest. I really liked "When you disappeared", Her Last Move" and "The One" and I would try another John Marrs book but for whatever reason it became plodding for me plus irritating sfx.
I did think the rest of the production was excellent and loved the narration by Kristin Atherton, Roy McMillan, Tom Bateman, Patience Tomlinson and Shaheen Khan but not so much the other female narrator who I always find a bit irritatingly too goody two shoesy.
Bottom line, if you like really relaxing and drifting off listening to an audio book - this is not an audio book I would recommend.

Intriguing book

Intriguing book and it continues to intrigue all the way through.
I struggled initially as I didn't like any of the characters and by the end of the book I still didn't like them but i didn't feel bored at any point.

Brilliant book!!

Brilliantly written and so current. In the age of artificial intelligence and technology, this is truly terrifying and scarily believable! I for one am never getting into a fully automated vehicle!!
John Marrs is an amazing story teller and makes you engage emotionally with all the characters ! 5 stars!!! You must listen to

Brilliant! Really enjoyed it

I loved John Marr's The One and I love the way he gets you to know so many characters in a short time and really hits the ground running with short chapters so you can return easily and finish where you left off. I REALLY enjoyed this book and it was great to hear each characters story with a different narrator and you really start to care about the characters and their situation. It raises a lot of questions about how technology is going to affect everyday people like us in the future without being sci-fi themed. There are some brilliant twists that I didn't see coming, I'd wholeheartedly recommend this book, but listen to The One first- this book references it a few times. Narrators were good except the female voice that follows the News Bulletin noise. I disagree with people that the sound effects are annoying, I quite enjoyed them and it all ties in nicely with the story.

Lots of twists and turns

Enjoyed this but saw the big twist coming a mile off. Felt like the author didn't know when to stop the book and added, what felt like, a lot of unnecessary drama towards the end. I did love the setting and story, though, and will continue reading books by this author as I really enjoy his writing style.
