Publisher's Summary

1940. Parisian seamstress Estella Bissette is forced to flee France as the Germans advance. She is bound for Manhattan with a few francs, one suitcase, her sewing machine and a dream: to have her own atelier.

2015. Australian curator Fabienne Bissette journeys to the annual Met Gala for an exhibition of her beloved grandmother's work - one of the world's leading designers of ready-to-wear. But as Fabienne learns more about her grandmother's past, she uncovers a story of tragedy, heartbreak and secrets - and the sacrifices made for love.

Crossing generations, society's boundaries and international turmoil, The Paris Seamstress is the beguiling, transporting story of the special relationship between a grandmother and her granddaughter as they attempt to heal the heartache of the past.

Mills and boonish

While this is an interesting story I felt it became bogged down in the Mills and Boon style which made me loose interest, I wasn't able to finish this book

Mesmerising

I have recommended this book to quite a few friends now, the narrator was particularly fabulous. I listened to this book almost continually over a few days whilst sewing and didn't want it to finish. With the narration changing from French to an Australian accent, and the poignant story line, I was transported to another world.
As a seamstress myself the way the writer described fabrics, colour and design was exceptionally beautiful. The storyline behind was heartfelt and emotive....mesmerising!

The resilience of strong women.

I love the way Natasha Lester has captured the voice of each of the characters with dignity amidst the challenges, and Anthea Greco does them all justice in her reading . I felt their pain and their joy, found myself barracking for them from my readers seat, and now the I feel the sadness of coming to the end of my readers journey.

Great story, shame about pronunciation.

The story is compelling and the performance of the narrator was generally good. Her accents were good and differentiated the characters well. However there were so many mispronunciations which became a bit of a distraction and disrupted the flow of the story. Better editing please.
