A HEART-POUNDING GOTHIC THRILLER FROM THE INTERNATIONALLY BESTSELLING AUTHOR

At seventeen, Lenora Hope

Hung her sister with a rope

Now reduced to a schoolyard chant, the Hope family murders shocked the Maine coast one bloody night in 1929. While most people assume seventeen-year-old Lenora was responsible, the police were never able to prove it. Other than her denial after the killings, she has never spoken publicly about that night, nor has she set foot outside Hope's End, the cliffside mansion where the massacre occurred.

Stabbed her father with a knife

Took her mother's happy life

It's now 1983, and home-health aide Kit McDeere arrives at a decaying Hope's End to care for Lenora after her previous nurse fled in the middle of the night. In her seventies and confined to a wheelchair, Lenora was rendered mute by a series of strokes and can only communicate with Kit by tapping out sentences on an old typewriter. One night, Lenora uses it to make a tantalizing offer - I want to tell you everything.

"It wasn't me," Lenora said

But she's the only one not dead

As Kit helps Lenora write about the events leading to the Hope family massacre, it becomes clear there's more to the tale than people know. But when new details about her predecessor's departure come to light, Kit starts to suspect Lenora might not be telling the complete truth - and that the seemingly harmless woman in her care could be far more dangerous than she first thought.

Good while gardening

This is not my usual style of book but I thought I would give it a go. It was fine; I enjoyed listening to it while I was gardening or walking but it didn’t capture me as I can see it has for other readers.

Loved this book!

This is one of my favourite books this year!
With suspense, thrills & a storyline that has you feeling like you’re on the edge of a roller coaster waiting to plummet down, this book had me hooked!

With twists and turns in every chapter, this is a great book for those who feel that they’ve mastered the art of predicting book endings

Decent plot but didn’t like the writing style

I don’t mind a long book, but instead of having a lot to say, this one was just written in a very repetitive style. For me, it’s not my cup of tea and it was frustrating and cumbersome to listen to, so much so that in the first 6 hours I really considered returning it. I persevered because of the good reviews about the plot. The plot twists were indeed fun - not completely unexpected, but nonetheless kept me guessing which helped pass the many hours of listening. I probably would have enjoyed it more as a physical book so I could skim, but the performances were good and the story picked up in the second half.

Kept me guessing

So many twists at the end and once they started, they just kept coming. this book really had me guessing and wanting more. the narrators done an excellent job. just one thing that almost made me stop.listening to it was the main character. she annoyed me. she was a know it all and fished around for too much. she was annoying. other than that, the book was good
