Publisher's Summary

Nothing gets our attention like an unmade decision: Should I accept the new position? Which schooling choice is best for my kids? How can I support my aging parents? When we have a decision to make and the answer isn't clear, what we want more than anything is peace, clarity, and a nudge in the right direction.

If you have trouble making decisions, because of either chronic hesitation you've always lived with or a more recent onset of decision fatigue, Emily P. Freeman offers a fresh way of practicing familiar but often forgotten advice: simply do the next right thing. With this simple, soulful practice, it is possible to clear the decision-making chaos, quiet the fear of choosing wrong, and find the courage to finally decide without regret or second-guessing.

Whether you're in the midst of a major life transition or are weary of the low-grade anxiety that daily life can bring, Emily helps create space for your soul to breathe so you can live life with God at a gentle pace and discern your next right thing in love.

Better than my already anticipated high expectations

This is a must read for....anyone. everyone. Emily has unlocked truths here that you probably have heard before, but she says them in a way that somehow, some way, bring tears to your eyes and whisper “this time it’s true for me.” I’m so thankful for the way her words have shone a light on these simple truths that for so long have been covered by a variety of fears in my own life and my ultimate desire for control, clarity and approval in every single thing I have ever done. Praise God for the freedom we have in Christ. Emily’s book thematically reminds us that there is so much freedom in our decision making and that the actual decision is rarely the point. God wants us to know Him and trust Him and that is such wonderful news for all the stressed out people in this world, myself included.

Perfect Sabbatical Book

This book is a perfect sabbatical book. And, for me, it was exactly what I needed. I resonated with every chapter and tracked deeply with the ideas presented. I loved Freeman’s stories and use of language.

Grateful for this book and highly recommend it to all fellow pilgrims in the journey of life.

I loved the content

I loved the content of this book. It really spoke to me and provided me with many "ah-ha!" moments. I can't wait to reread (or listen again) to really work through all the practice exercises. I would recommend it to those who struggle with decision making whether you are religious or not. Don't let the Christian overtones discourage you from giving it a try if you are non-Christian.

The only thing I didn't love was the tone of her voice. I much prefer the way she sounds on the podcast than this narration. It is difficult to believe it's the same person. It feels a little too perfect or soothing, like bedtime storyish and machine-like, for my taste. Seemed like a more normal tone would be more appropriate for the topic.

Worth the Wait

I saw this in an advanced readers copy database and waited months with my last Audible credit to buy it. I'm so glad I did. In the first few chapters, I thought I might need to shelve this until a big decision came my way. Soon afterward, I realized that was not the case. This book gives practical strategies to make the best decisions in day-to-day circumstances and in the face of "great opportunities". These strategies are not the oft-repeated ones but are fresh alternatives that I was surprised to find genuinely transformative. This is worth having in your library so that you can choose a strategy to apply and then return to the book when you have implemented it well and are ready to take another step toward improving your decision making, productivity, and authenticity.

A gentle but much needed leading.

While there have been many books I have wanted to reread or listen to again this is the FIRST that I am doing so immediately after. I am the look at the big picture to get a feel kind of person with the first pass. The second pass will be a more intentional soul searching journey. Thank Emily for making space to receive these into your spirit and bold enough to share. May God bless you!

A gentle encouragement

I listened to this entire book in a day. So many great thoughts, that I immediately ordered a hard copy so that I can go through it again with my highlighter.

Emily is the perfect narrator.
