Publisher's Summary

The New Husband is a riveting thriller about the lies we tell ourselves from D. J. Palmer, the author of Saving Meghan.

What makes Simon Fitch so perfect?

  • He knows all her favorite foods, music, and movies.
  • Her son adores him. He was there when she needed him most.
  • He anticipates her every need.
  • He would never betray her like her first husband.

The perfect husband. He checks all the boxes.

The question is, why?

Nina Garrity learned the hard way that her missing husband, Glen, had been leading a double life with another woman. But with Glen gone - presumably drowned while fishing on his boat - she couldn't confront him about the affair or find closure to the life he blew apart.

Now, a year and a half later, Nina has found love again and hopes she can put her shattered world back together. Simon, a widower still grieving the death of his first wife, thinks he has found his dream girl in Nina, and his charm and affections help break through to a heart hardened by betrayal. Nina's teenage son, Connor, embraces Simon as the father he wishes his dad could have been, while her friends see a different side to him, and they aren't afraid to use the word obsession.

Nina works hard to bridge the divide that’s come between her daughter and Simon. She wants so badly to believe her life is finally getting back on track, but she’ll soon discover that the greatest danger to herself and her children are the lies people tell themselves.

One of my top listens for 2020! So good!

Seriously the only thing that could have made me love this more than I did would have been getting some of Simon's side. The story is so messed up and while I knew the outcome for the most part I still felt obsessed with it! I wasn't able to go long without listening here or there as much as I could. I stayed up well into 2am last night just entranced in the world DJ Palmer created. These narrators work amazingly well together. January LaVoy has always been a narrator I've loved listening too. Rebecca Soler was new to me, I believe anyway, and I really connected with her character portrayal. Maggie is this teen girl not only struggling with her mom's new relationship but with a missing dad. I felt the depth of her pain. It was an exemplary performance. Same with Miss LaVoy. She always captures the feelings and the depth of the story. This was definitely one of my favorites for 2020! With the credit IMO!

Great story....

Loved the epilogue. I see other reviewers being so heartless when they review books about domestic abuse not realizing how complex those relationships are. Not to mention, women are in more danger when they do try to leave than if they just stay. Those are the statistics. Stop judging. This was a great thriller that I related to having been involved with a sociopath when I was very young. if you think they cannot charm you like the character in this book, think again. Great read, some plot holes technicalities but mostly I was riveted. Highly recommended for the ppl who aren’t so judgmental.

Too dumb

I didn’t enjoy this book in slightest. Nina was so so dumb and story was just not believable. I really didn’t care about any of the characters. I wouldn’t recommend it. Returning

Worth Your Time!

Finally a read/listen that was intriguing and enjoyable. This book was predictably unpredictable. With that said, I knew the author wanted me to know who the antagonist was from the beginning, but also kept me wondering the WHAT, HOW and WHY... I wanted to finish quickly to get to the resolution. The perspective written from different characters point of views, helped the story flow beautifully. The narrators were able to contribute to the flow of the author's story. This book was a refreshing read, and would like to read more of this author's works. I would recommend this read,, if you like psychological thrillers or intrigue.

Good, not stellar

This is a solid story. I found it a bit predictable, but the way the story is written keeps you engaged. Performance was adequate, again, not stellar. I found this listen to be better than average. It was a story I could put down and pick up again at a later time. I did not have the urge to find out what's next.

Narration⁉️

Couldn’t finish, love January LaVoy, and should have narrated the entire book. The other narrator had never heard of and had a grating voice 😕😕😕

Implausible Plot ....But Still Enjoyable!

This is my first book by this author and even though there were many flaws in the story, the book really moved. The fact that the book was narrated by two superb narrators really, really helped! To avoid spoilers....I will avoid commenting on the implausible plot and an ending that lacked credibility and was just not believable. With all of its flaws, the book was very engaging and impossible to put down. Definitely worth the credit if your standards are not very high!

kept my interest

It was a good story and I enjoyed all the characters but it is nothing life changing. Seems like I have read the same version of this story many times.
