About this listen

Dark powers have been unleashed across the galaxy. Will the Alchemist be humanity's saviour – or its doom? Following on from The Reality Dysfunction, The Neutronium Alchemist is the second epic novel in the Night's Dawn trilogy by Peter F. Hamilton.

A seemingly unstoppable force has entered our universe, and we are confronted by our most primal fear. Those who have succumbed to its horror have acquired godlike powers. Yet their actions are far from divine.

As they advance from planet to planet, these powerful individuals leave slaughter and mayhem in their wake. The Confederation Navy is dangerously overstretched, as whole worlds fracture and collapse. And a dark messiah prepares to invoke his own version of the final night.

In such desperate times, a powerful new weapon could cause yet more terror, but Dr Alkad Mzu is determined to retrieve the Alchemist – and complete her thirty-year-old mission to slay a star. However, as she works to obtain it, others have their own ideas on how to use this ultimate doomsday device . . .

The Neutronium Alchemist is followed by The Naked God.

Continues to be an amazingly rich world. For a story so beyond our own time and technological development, the characters remain so genuinely human. So keen to keep listening to what will happen next.

Slow builder but the last few hours of payoffs are a fantastic rollercoaster ride. Fifteen words required what is this.

Hamiltons imagination and dedication to detail take me there. There is even some tasteful titulation.

I have yet to read a better space opera than this one. Can wait to start the next book. Think I will download it now.

Best Space Opera I have Ever Read

The narration is incredible with the variety of accents and characters produced at a top notch level.
The production has squished the scene changes so it seems like the narrator doesn’t even take a breath between them, but given the length of the book it had to be in order to save an hour.
The story is brilliant.

Absolutely brilliant

Excellent evolution of the characters and solid speculative science. Improves on every aspect that was set up in the first book.

Terrible Australian accents, but very few outside of Australia get it right.

A vast improvement on the first
