Book 5 of The Marlow Murder Club
I came across this series because Robert Thorogood is the author of the television series, Death in Paradise, which I love. The Marlow Murder Club has some of the same shenanigans, with less police procedural. However, there is some, especially in this book. This series has also been made into a show, so if 5 books feel too overwhelming, check that out.
Book 4, Murder on the Marlow Belle, ended with a cliffhanger, so I pre-ordered The Mysterious Affair of Judith Potts right away. It was released on January 15, so it went right to the top of my TBR. No messing around here! The cliffhanger was that someone from Judith's past showed up at her doorstep and started stirring up trouble.
Additionally, Marlow's celebrities are getting murdered. A footballer and a thriller writer are found dead, and the gang must untangle a web of scandal to find the killer. But Judith is keeping secrets. I really liked the first 3/4 of this book. There's a scene where Judith, Suzie, and Becks go to a private tennis club to gather intel, and I legit snort-laughed. It's utter chaos and downright hilarious.
But I have a (tiny) complaint about the end. Judith disappears/goes on the run, and when she comes back, she neatly tells us how she solved everything. Everything is tied up in a neat bow, but it's all done behind the scenes, which feels... like cheating?
Body count = 2.
All 5 The Marlow Murder Club books are out now.
It wasn't the best of the series, but I still give it a thumbs-up.
