About this listen

"Boy, do I have a lot to learn!" Anyone who's ever picked up a musical instrument of any kind - from the first caveman banging rocks to that little kid at the guitar shop - has thought that. I know I did. I'd been trying for years to break in to the music scene, to show everyone my chops, to make my mark. And I was good. But I wasn't great. I knew that there was something wrong.

"Then the teacher showed up. I didn't ask for him. I didn't think I needed him. And all he said he could teach me was 'nothing'.

"What happened next, you may not believe...I sure didn't...but that didn't stop him."

The Music Lesson is the inspiring story of a young bass player and the lessons he learns about Life, Music, and the Life of Music. Throughout this audiobook is new, original music written by Victor Wooten and a bonus performance by the original supergroup Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.

Valuable lessons to be gleaned here if you can open yourself up to learn the lessons and not stress about if the story is true though parts of it are.

I’ve read and listened to a lot of books about music and this is far away the book that has the most potential to powerfully impact how someone plays music and sees views their performance career. This book is an absolute musical classic. Great, engaging narration as well.

Everything you need to know about music

I’ve never written a review for a book but this one is a must if you’re a musician or producer. It doesn’t matter what instrument you play, the principles and concepts explained in this book has opened up my playing and made me aware of elements in music that I’ve been neglecting.

Now that I know these concepts I’m able to listen out and hear them in other peoples playing. I’m also able to train them.

A lesson that stuck with me is - music isn’t something that you should separate yourself from. It shouldn’t just exist when you gig, practise or create. It should be present within you, your surroundings and in all parts of your life.

Enlightening
