About this listen

The inspiration for evil may hold the key to murder in this edge-of-your-seat story from Mystery Writers of America Grand Master Jeffery Deaver.

Life appears to imitate art when a series of sadistic murders grips the city. Investigating the carefully orchestrated killings, Detective Gene Tripp and his partner discover that the perp might have been inspired by the best-selling novels and stories of popular thriller author Brody Pierce. Or has the demon of writer’s block driven Brody himself to step over the line between fiction and reality and exploit the dark side of his imagination?

As the detectives race to uncover the truth before more people die, they learn that perhaps yet another boundary has been crossed:

That between real life and the supernatural.

Interesting twist of engagement, connections and theories. I enjoy following the case of the mystery incidents and what really caused them. This book was a good light reader.

interesting ideas scattered throughout. would've been better if the story was fleshed out more. Interesting character introduced to late that could've offered so much to the book. filled a gap waiting for the next credit to drop

But my goodness, did it take a ridiculous and scoff-worthy turn! Disappointed in the author and that I wasted my time and money.

It started out so well...

It’s only short, but it’s seems to rush through everything and not give characters or plot enough time to thicken and grow. Ending was a disappointment and everything seemed ti just be over all of a sudden.

Bit of a nothing story

Thought it had promise but left very disappointed by the end.
It was enjoyable and easy to listen to for the most part. Liked the set up and characters. The performance was also good.

Disappointing

Deaver always delivers and this is a terrific example of his ability to set a fast but credible pace with characters who will engage and fascinate the reader. Loved it!

The usual - a great story

Had a twist I never saw coming. Been a massive Deaver fan for a long time and it’s nothing like I’ve read before. Great fun!

liked the book wish the ending didn't include "magic" and was rather cantered around a sociopath or psychopath would make more sense but rest of the book was generally ok
