About this listen

The new masterfully plotted, standalone pyschological thriller from number-one best seller Jonathan Kellerman, featuring tough, brilliant young pyschologist Grace Blades, a former student of Alex Delaware.

A brilliant and dedicated psychologist, Grace Blades has a gift for treating troubled souls and tormented psyches - because she bears her own invisible scars. Only five years old when she watched her parents die in a bloody murder-suicide, Grace took refuge in her fierce intellect and found comfort in the loving couple who adopted her.

But her now-accomplished life has a secret side, ruled by an insatiable desire; by night she pursues the addictive thrills of sexual trysts with strangers. And when her two worlds unexpectedly converge, Grace's past returns with a vengeance, threatening to destroy everything she's fought for - including her life.

Shaken by the murder of her newest patient and fearful that an investigation will expose her double life, Grace sets out to probe the crime herself. But when she stumbles on the dead man's true identity, a horrifying chapter from her childhood is violently reawakened, forcing Grace to confront a decades-old act of evil crying out to be avenged.

Suddenly stalked by dangerous men, Grace must turn to the talent for survival she's depended on all her life in order to face down the darkest personal demon she's ever battled: her own.

I'm a Jonathan Kellerman fan. I bought this book without even reading the summary. I was disappointed. Unlike his other work, this story was putdownable - particularly early on. There one section fairly early in the story, where you get all these details of how the main character is treating her psychology patients. These details turn out to be irrelevant to the plot and are just completely boring. I nearly gave up then. But I persevered. It got a little more interesting - but it was difficult to finish. I kept getting bored and tuning out and having to reread sections. And once done - despite its length, you don't feel it is finished. Very unsatisfying and disappointing.

I found the pace of the book exilerating and impssible tp put down. The primary character evolved wonderfully and her cold logic facinating.

This is a must read.

Really enjoyed this audiobook. Great narration and flow of story. The story follows two paths, the past where Grace was an orphaned child, heading from one foster care to another and the present where her professional life as a successful psychologist and personal life get mixed.

From the first Jonathon Kellerman book I was enthralled by his unique writing and crafting of exciting spellbinding stories. I even read every book with "Kellerman "on it- all were a disappointment until this one!
At last he is back to his very best!
A brilliant story line, great characters, not stereotyped at all.
Than,s for a wonderful read. I actually read it three times, such was the enjoyment with the characters as well as the story!

At last!!
