Publisher's Summary

St Andrews, Scotland. When an elderly woman's naked body is found in her home, crucified to the floor, DCI Andy Gilchrist and his associate, DS Jessie Janes, find themselves in a hunt for a brutal serial killer. As the body count rises, suspicion falls on Tap 'Dancer' McCrear, a career criminal recently released from prison after serving 15 years for a murder he swore he never committed.

As Gilchrist begins to uncover the terrifying truth behind each of the killings, his worst fears are realised when he learns that McCrear is killing everyone involved in his murder trial...for it was Gilchrist who arrested McCrear all those years ago.

High-flying Detective Superintendent Rommie Frazier, who leads the multi-constabulary task force searching for McCrear, clashes with Gilchrist over the detail of the investigation and demands his removal. But Gilchrist won't leave without a fight, for he knows it is up to him to find Tap McCrear...before his own name is struck off the murder list.

I have only just discovered T.F. Muir and enjoyed this book & the reading by David Monteath immensely. As good as any I have listened to, I hope there are more from this pair.

Excellent

Another top form offering in the Andy Gilchrist series. David Monteath is also perfect for the role as usual.
If you haven't read the previous books it can be enjoyed as a stand alone but they're all so good I would recommend starting at the first, it just gives a better understanding of the main character's personal life

Pretty good

This went exactly as expected. Eventually every detective series has to do this particular revenge storyline, I think it might be the law. But it was an entertaining listen, and well narrated. Apart from one thing. Succinylcholine. Ouch! The pronunciation! Every time he said it wrong, it jarred me right out of the story. I so wish audiobook publishers would provide narrators with phonetic spellings of medical, pharmaceutical, and uncommon words (although having heard a narrator pronounce plough as “pluff” I suspect they’d be fighting a losing battle).

A gripping book

I have only recently found T F Muir. I know David Monteath from other audible books and together they give great listening.

The story line faultless and the delivery by David Monteath a sheer joy.

I will watch out from now on for all new offerings.

Tank you both.

Awesome!

The best in the series yet, the last few chapters keeping me on tender hooks. Perfectly narrated and I loved the ending. Can’t wait to read the next in the series x

Covid stays strictly in the real world

Another solid TF Muir read: Well written, well narrated. Yet, although it's been at least a year since Covid-19 became a fact of life worldwide, this is another example of one of my favourite authors pretending it doesn't exist. Once again I find it as strange as a book set 1940 completely ignoring the Second World War.

Very disappointing

David Monteith as usual is a great narrator but I found this story outlandish and quite unbelievable
It must be difficult to keep thinking of new story lines
I know but this one was really quite ridiculous

I’ve liked the early books in the series but I think it’s time to stop now!

Brilliant as always.

You can always depend on a good twisty turny romp in this series. Enough blood and gore to make you wince, but it’s the smart prose that keeps you reading. Also Jessie is one of the best sidekicks ever.

Brilliant!

Love the writing by TF Muir. Plot gripping and the characters of Gilchrist and Jessie superb and always developing. Jesse really comes into her own in this story. Beautifully read, one of the best narrators who has Gilchrist nailed on. Can’t wait for the next one!
